exponentially?. If the rate of community spread (the R_O number) is reduced, even small reductions can significantly impact epidemics and pandemics.

An R_O of
3, after 4 transmission cycles
infects 81

1x3x3x3x3=81
So if cloth mask leak or are not as effective as N95 masks on transmission of viral particles, reducing thew R_O 3 to 2, or by 33%m, has dramatic effects on community spread
The earlier in the cycle of transmission masks are used, the greater the reduction.
