Scratching = Handicapping

This may have been covered before in the forum, but I 'typically' start the handicapping process prior to race day, and make adjustments accordingly, e.g. rain, etc. You know, I see key horses (in...

Unified @ 4/5 seems high having not run a route, but there are some slugs in this race too.

Probably a race to pass. Don't see any money here. GM won't stay at 10-1.

Yeah, I think the race played out more or less as expected. What derby qualifying system was in place prior to the earnings system in 1986?

I'm not sure about breeding...here we are looking for...

Agree. O'Neill has also explained the "looking back", and why Nyquist was taken wide in the Fla. Derby. Also, Nyquist hasn't been passed in the stretch, and that was O'Neill's biggest concern - a...

Favorites winning could be a simple consequence of the new point system, although it's probably too early to tell. It makes sense, for the same reason that half the field was comprised of sustainers....

Summer Scratches

Ranting.

I had a positive year last year, which carried through this spring. Lately though, it's been a struggle. Summer. I'm mainly pissed about scratches. Typically, I look for fields with more...

Interesting. Thanks! For backstory, I tend to stick with graded stakes races, and purchase PP's accordingly. So, when I purchased the Delaware card I was disappointed with that race. Race 10 was...

Ok, but explain it to me. Why would horses that appear to be 10k claimers be in a race labeled Grade 2? Thanks.

Delaware Park Race 11

I tried to handicap this race, but it has to be the ugliest Grade 2 I've ever encountered. Needless to say, I'm not betting it.

Just sayin'.

There's always some degree of chance or randomness, but the fundamentals hold true - e.g. the Mother Goose stakes yesterday at Belmont, which to me was textbook. It was the only race I bet yesterday....

Thanks for the feedback. I tend to do most handicapping prior to race day, but often something comes up where I can't get to the track. Just looking for options. Thanks!

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but has anyone bet via the TVG phone app? If so, I'd like your thoughts, etc. Thanks!

Well, believe what you will, but AP's #'s aren't any more impressive than CC's. Believing things is what leads to faulty reasoning. And, you know, AP is facing a weaker Belmont field than CC, and...

Derby Menu

Trying to recall if .50 TRIs are in play? I've downloaded PPs, but it's not addressed. Likewise, per usual, I'm guessing .10 Supers are out? Just trying to figured out how I'm going to bet, before...

Seriously. How did this horse even qualify? Running some crappy maiden races, with less than exceptional figures. The only reason I'd bet on this horse would be so I could be in on the joke.

I don't really agree. Aside from aforementioned running styles, this crop seems better than last year to me...for the distance. Considering Wildcat Red, Samraat, et al. I don't know, of course, but...

Downhill Turf Course

So, what's the scoop on the Downhill Turf Course? Does it favor early speed, moreso than a 'level' turf course....or what?

BC Wager Amounts

So, I'm trying to structure some bets. Looking at some early forms, it doesn't appear there will be .50 TRIs or .10 SUPs - is that accurate?? Just trying to manage the bankroll. Thanks.

Early Pace

If looking at a race with no apparent early pace, what's the rule of thumb - as to overall race shape. Thx.
