Belmont

For me, the scratch doesn't change who I like. I think Dullihan basically owns the race. There are intriguing others who I'll use in my trifecta:

Dullihan - A case can be made that he's peaked...

I'm thinking this guy is more shrewd than you realize. He might be the only one in the country with that kind of odds.

And I don't see why its so inconceivable that both Bodemeister and IHA lose the Belmont.

How far back was Dullahan in the Derby? As I recall, he was mere inches from winning the place photo.

Dullahan is likely the only real competition. So many of these 3 yr. olds are running like claimers, IHA could bounce and still win.

I think some longshots have a decent chance in here:

1) Tiger Walk
2) I'll Have Another
3) Bodemeister
4) Cozzetti

I plan to bet trifectas and will key Tiger Walk.

I would say you need to read The Sheets to have any idea. As far as Bodemeister and IHA go, both are vulnerable, although technically Bodemeister bounced in the Derby (from his top effort in AR). ...

I guess something was bothering him. Maybe it was weather related...who knows? I think a "wait and see" approach is best. The Met Mile could be to his liking.

Union Rags
Take Charge Indy

I think this is more of an exotic betting race. I plan to key the top...

Of all the speed horses, he's most likely to run his best. Trinniberg is really no match, and Bodemeister plain ol' figures to bounce (his numbers aren't all that much better on the Ragozins btw).

It's not really required is it? Besides, interpreting the numbers, finding the optimal races to bet, and fine-tuning your bets as the odds fluctuate is a specialty in its own right. All of that is...

Uncle Mo looms pretty strrong in this race, but To Honor and Serve will offer better value and seems to have bloomed late as a 3yo. Both might be bit by Rattlesnake (assuming he improves), and I'll...

Travers

My top four:

Stay Thirsty
Malibu Glow
Shakleford
Ruler on Ice

This figures to be a pretty comptitive renewal.

It's only three furlongs more than the Kings Bishop. He's supposed to be the best of his generation. If Pletcher sees this more as a test or prep, I'm inclined to bet that way.

I liked Flower Alley in that race. Part of the reason for betting against Bellamy Road was the layoff, but it wasn't so much the time off as the reason for the layoff and his overall pattern....

If Pletcher was confident in UM, why wouldn't he have entered UM for Saratoga's biggest race, the Travers? Why put the horse in a sprint? I don't think he's gone less than a mile since his maiden...

After a series of hard luck trips, perhaps Mucho Macho Man will find better fortune with Dominguez riding. I think he can bounce back here.

Charismatic in '99. As I recall, he was around 30/1 winning the Derby. Then he won the Preakness, but was 3rd in the Belmont while sustaining an injury that ended his career.

The Ragozin number for Animal Kingdom's Derby win is 3+, a six point jump from the 9+ he had going into the race. It's too much improvement all at once to hope that AK can win both the Preakness and...
