Hi cutchemist42,
I visited there the very first two days they ran (in 2004 I think). Everything was temporary then like tents and rented bleachers. When a place runs for the very first time, or racing returns after a gap of time, it is best to get the visit in case it is a bust and they never race again.
NDHP was the result of a lot of volunteer efforts. The first season was something like 10-12 days. After a while they ran into financial trouble and did not run for a few years. Now they run only 1 or 2 weekends.
You might also check out another "interesting" racing venue up that way in North Dakota. The track is Chippewa Downs (on an Indian Reservation) in Belcourt, ND. They usually run about 4 weekends in June. It might shock some folks as the track seemed to have some rocks in it, and at least to me, the stretch looked like it runs uphill. Don't be surprised if you see 12-year-olds betting their allowance money.
