Track Speed Ratings

Harness track ratings on the web are very much out-dated. Here's Canada:
http://www.standardbredcanada.ca/con...ed-canada.html

USTA no longer rates them .
http://xwebapp.ustrotting.com/absolu...4661&zoneid=61

Trackmaster doesn't publish them(?)

Here's my Ratings calculated from races in 2017 using
Average TM class 80 (70-90),
Races rated "FT" only.
You can use 120.0 for a track not listed except Delaware Fair (not enough data)

Thanks Ray, good stuff. I use your numbers to help me adjust mine. I'm a little surprised that Lexington isn't the fastest. I wonder if the number is brought down by the cheap horses that race there on the non-stakes days. I'm a little surprised that Hoosier is that fast, I better check my number.

Ok Bob,

You have Calx rated faster than me in the last time I checked your DRF newsletters.
Otherwise we're pretty much in agreement.

The base used makes a difference in the absolute numbers but the difference between tracks is what's important.

I used TM average 80 class races which is not independent data of TM speed, which already has their ratings in the numbers. It should cancel out when comparing differences.

I've tried using Claimers or Purse values as a base but that doesn't work.

Strangely enough the longer I bet harness races the worse I got at it, I pretty much gave it up in the late 80's. Those times appear ridiculously fast to me if they are average level races. I am not doubting your figures, just wondering how the average race is 3-5 seconds faster than 30 years ago?

Breeding . . but mostly equipment and latest bikes.

Thanks Ray.

This should help a lot.

I had an old Harness Eye I used to use, but, misplaced it.

Am I reading Ray's SR chart correctly?

Pandy ... I read where you said that your ratings pretty much match Ray's. My query for example is that Ray's ratings have TGD as 114.3 and MR as 118.1. Wouldn't that be ~ a 18 fifth of a second difference. Your ratings for these tracks are 156.3 and 158.2 respectively. That would only be a 9 point difference. Am I understanding Ray's chart correctly?

Ray2000 07-21-2018 01:43 PM

Charlie

My ratings are in 10ths of a second, not fifths like Pandy or most programs.

The difference between TDG-MR is 18 tenths or 9 fifths.

Thanks

Ray ... firstly, thanks for all the info you place on this board. It's greatly appreciated. Also, thanks for your quick response to my posting. I should have realized that your times were in 10ths, not 5ths.

Just wanted to mention, I tweak the numbers. What I do is I take the raw numbers, similar to what Ray uses, and then I look to see how shippers do when they ship from one track to another and I make adjustments. No matter how you do it, it's impossible to get it accurate, but I try to at least get a good idea of how fast each track is. What makes it tough is that the times at a track are greatly affected by the class of horse at each track. So a track like Buffalo, for instance, always came up slow. Years ago the USTA had it very slow. But that was because the horses were slow, not the track.
