Constantly thwarting efforts to expand sports betting borders on illegal.
The conspiracies put together by the likes of Adelson, and the sports
organizations, need to be revealed for what they are. A total sham.

It's going to take a scandal for something to break.

There was a time limit of some sort (7 yrs?), on the states that were given a chance to implement sports betting after the 1992 law was passed (New Jersey, Oregon, Delaware).

NJ decided not to move forward with further legalization.

Regardless of the outcome in NJ, the push for legal sports wagering will continue. Any state that had casinos and/or horse racing, online or otherwise, can't play the morality card. It's just a question of when the complex spider web of fingers in the gambling pie gets out-of-balance to where one faction represented by government decides to legalize it. My money is riding on those wildcats in North Dakota leading the charge.

As for the impact on horse racing, it would be a big impact. Maybe only one out of every 20 sports fans/bettors plays the horses, but I'd guess at least 2/3 of horseplayers like to bet sports. Man, I sure miss Pinnacle.

In case anyone is interested or can share this....I did some research to get as many twitter handles as I could for all the Republican NJ Legislatures to urge them to vote to override the Governor's veto. There are 16 Republicans in the Senate and 32 in the Assembly. All they need is THREE Republican senators and SIX Republican Assemblymen to reach the 2/3 majority vote to override the veto. There are plenty of Republican Legislatures that represent Counties that have tracks, casinos, or both. I figured if we can send tweets/emails/facebook postings urging them to vote with the citizens of NJ to override the veto and institute sports betting, maybe they will have to take notice. Can't hurt.

The official tally is $460K to defeat online gaming as of this article (but unofficially it's way more). It's well known he is trying to quash it. He fears Google and Facebook will take over gambling once it becomes legal online. His "moral objections" are transparent bullsh*t. Christie is well aware of Adelson's views.

Good luck with Kyrillos he'll do whatever Christie tells him. When the Monmouth crisis started I wrote him a detailed letter why as a Monmouth county representative he should be on the tracks side. His reply was to back Christie 1000% (yes 1000!!!) I'm pretty sure its still in one of my folders. This was before he ran for governor his position isn't changing now.

I despise Kryllios so much I switched to an independent after being a registered republican for over twenty years.

I applaud your effort on behalf of the tracks but at this point (my opinion) tweets only go so far, now its time for lengthy letter writing mode. You need to show "passion" about the subject not 140 characters.

On the positive side Jennifer Beck is as good at it gets. She fights for the horse people and the track she isn't a Christie lemming. I would hope they can do a redistrict and somehow she becomes my senator. Its never going to happen but at least I can dream about having adequate representation.

If they vote to override the veto. I expect a Federal injunction within 24 hours.

Sandy, you are probably right. But it would be very interesting to see this back in court to see how the leagues respond to something that NJ is doing (repealing prohibition) that they, the Dept of Justice, and 3rd District Court of Appeals stated was ok.

Also, I sent out a mass email to all the NJ Republican congressmen and got a response back today from Senator Thompson, from the 12th district, and he clearly stated that he would vote YES.

It's a good start. I also had Rich Muny, who is the Director of the Poker Players Alliance (and who has over 35,000 followers on twitter) to retweet my post regarding the sports betting and my facebook page. Hopefully enough people put some pressure on these legislators to get them to override the governor's veto.

Some people in Jersey are really in a hurry to donate their money, do you think sports betting is the short trip to the gravy train ???
Don't Bet On It ?? Nothing can save Atlantic City, it's over for them.

There is a possible issue if the veto is over turned and that is the casino revenue sharing for a Northern NJ casino with the racetracks. The Governor will be very upset if this is overturned in the senate and the house and may make it an impossibility for the racetracks to share in that revenue! Catch 22....

Senator Thompson is outstanding I'm sure he wrote more than a 2 sentence reply. He helped me take on the electric company and cost them over a quarter million dollars doing upgrades in my neighborhood around twenty years ago. He is the best ally you can have and was the reason I became a republican from independent.
