Hushion to retire from training at end of meet
ELMONT, N.Y. – Mike Hushion, respected as a horse trainer but admired for being a better person, will retire from the game after 42 years of training when the Belmont Park spring-summer meet ends on July 16.

He had a very good career as a trainer. If I recall correctly he started with the "Chief" (Allen Jerkens).

I saw somewhere that he is proudest of never having a positive. That is really cool.

I hear that he has been in poor health the past few years. He was one of the last of the trainers that I used to follow back in the days of Oscar Barrera and Gilbert Puentes. He will be missed badly by us old-timers.

My son worked as Mr Hushion's assistant trainer for three years. My son was young, maybe 22 when Mike hired him. He helped my son grow not only as a horseman, but as a person.
Mike, I hope you have a long and happy retirement!!
