Decimal Odds

Hey everyone!

When I am handicapping I get stuck on knowing what odds are next to the weight carried in the DRF, but sometimes they are plain simple like 2.8 is 3-1. The main reason I am asking people (not to rant on me) to help me with figuring the decimal odds out? It would be awesome to get help from such great people in this forum. Thanks

Here are the odds I would have trouble with

0.10 all the way to 0.90

And also these ones too
1.1 all the way up to 1.5, 2.1 up to 2.5 and so on...

But I am pretty sure you would round 1.6 up to 2.1 right?

I am grateful for all the help I can get.

Thanks again!

2.8 is 5/2.

Hint - NEVER ROUND UP! The conversion is not that difficult.

1.6 is exactly 8/5. Why would you want to round it up?

Times both sides by 10 so,

0.1/1 = 1/10
0.2/1 = 2/10 (1/5)
0.3/1 = 3/10
0.4/1 = 4/10 (2/5)
and so on

1.1/1 = 11/10
1.2/1 = 12/10 (6/5)
1.3/1 = 13/10
and so forth

Think what win price would be ($2 pay price)

1.6 is $5.20
2.1 is $6.20

The decimal system, which is a standard in Europe, differs from the fractional odds used in U.S. racing, in that it includes the payoff. Probably the simplest way to make the conversion to U.S. fractional odds, is to subtract one from the decimal odds -- e.g. 4.5=3.5=7/2.
