Why Is There Suddenly an Extremely Severe Shortage of Workers All Over the World?

The unprecedented employment crisis that we are watching unfold around the globe is so bizarre that it could have been pulled straight out of an episode of the Twilight Zone. For the very first time in recorded history, there is an extremely severe shortage of workers in nations all over the planet. When this shortage first started to emerge earlier this year, I thought that it was very strange, because 2020 had been a year when we had seen unemployment absolutely skyrocket in the U.S. and other western nations.

In fact, somewhere around 70 million Americans filed claims for unemployment benefits last year. Not too long ago we had vast hordes of people that were out of work, and now we are suddenly facing the greatest labor shortage in history? Something is not adding up.

some of the shortages are government caused like a mandatory 2 week break because they were 'exposed' to someone that tested positive for wuhan virus.

That might explain some...but this shortage of workers is global in scale. This experience, apparently, is unprecedented in world history.

Maybe the RAPTURE is taking place, right boxy?

A similar thing happened after the bubonic plague hit Europe in the late 1340's. Somewhere between 1/4 to 1/2 of people were killed by the plague throughout Europe. While it wasn't totally world wide, it was pan-European. And that plagues killed both more in numbers and as a percentage of the population than COVID. England didn't recover it's population numbers until somewhere in the middle of the 1700's.

After the plague subsided wages increased for the workers that were left. It was one of the things that led to the rise of the merchant class in the following years.

Local old school drive-in restaurant, whose owner I know personally, has and employee walk last week and she was making $21 an hour :eek:

It's nuts.

Our lawn care guy (for the last 25 years) cut the grass on Monday without a crew. One guy was sick but the other one said he was quitting because he was making like $3k per month (from the current dole, food stamps, etc.).

The worker told him that the $18 per hour works out to about $3k a month - the same thing - but he had to WORK for that.

He said that he'd have to be paid DOUBLE to justify working!!!!

Your lawn care guy is lying to you, or maybe you are lying to us. Under Nevada law, you don’t get unemployment if you quit your job unless you have good reason. Not wanting to work is not good reason. Also, the monthly payment in Nevada is around $1800 not $3,000.

If you’re talking about adding the COVID-19 benefits which will be ending soon, that won’t work either. Those only kick in if you are unemployed because of Covid.

I said above that the monthly payment is $1800, but that is a maximum. The real amount is half what you earned during your base period up to the maximum. So, when you lose your job, your pay is cut in half. If you quit your job, you’re not eligible. Your post is BS.

Living in Illinois you should know how easy it is to get unemployment benefits in some states. The offices don't investigate claims so how are they going to know if you're following the law???

When I had the pleasure of being schooled by Joe Brinkman's Umpire School, one of the things they taught was how to handle negative comments.

Specifically, what was taught (I think by Nick Bremigan) was, "If you start a sentence with YOU ARE... you had better finish it with HELL OF A NICE GUY, GREAT UMPIRE, HANDSOME FELLOW, or similar. Otherwise, you aren't here any more."
