GE Moving 950 Jobs to Fort Worth

Ok, it's 950......

I find this to be a fascinating tactic on behalf of Republican State Governments.

PA has a republican governor though.

Go look at how they voted. Over 60 % for Obama in some of the areas hardest hit by this

I think if you look back at some of the comments going back to 2006, by the Republican Governors association etc, you can see a trickle of a plan. Is there a plan? If so, and they can keep pulling some of this stuff off, it's going to be very interesting to watch.

Who can offer the most corporate welfare?

Self-defeating. When U.S. workers can no longer afford to buy or use the products they manufacture...

What then?

Looks like GE is looking for major concessions from the union.Might even try to bust it altogether. There is still some hope that some jobs may be saved according to the article ,depending on what the union gives up. Texas benefits, PA loses and the unemployment, medicaid and food stamp programs increase. The new american way.Mega corporations rule the nest. Not personal, just business.

Over the past decade, GE’s effective federal income tax rate on its $81.2 billion in pretax U.S. profits has been at most 1.8 percent.GE has some very savvy financial suits on their payroll. Must pay them millions to keep abreast of all the tax gimmicks. http://www.ctj.org/taxjusticedigest/...p#.UWSiDKJwqSo

I wonder what Texas is giving GE to move there. You better believe they aren't doing it just to avoid paying a state income tax which they probably figured out way not to pay in PA. Nebraska is giving away free buildings and land in addition to tax breaks to attract new jobs. We are still behind the curve of what other states are giving away.

Dave makes a good point on corporate welfare. There has to be a limit.

Btw, Navistar just announced they are closing a plant in a Dallas suburb, over 800 jobs going to Mexico.

Dog eat dog........

no one is going anywhere on minimum wage.

It is not meant to be a career path.

Operative word is minimum.

TJDave 04-11-2013 03:50 AM

A career to nowhere

Agreed, but that's what minimum wage has become.
