I was also thoroughly impressed with Gronkowski. DFL to start the race, looked almost lost on the backstretch, and then threw forth a wicked fury that was within some kind of weirdness of getting home.

If Gronk can stick to mile and half races I think he has a future!!!

Yep. I think we run about 4 or 5 in the States. :headbanger:

After that HORRIBLE start, Gronkowski ran a really impressive race.
Especially that powerful run at the end.
Staying on the inside when he made his move really paid off for him.

Full credit to Justify.
When Gronkowski started to get close,
Justify really showed his mettle in the last 100 yards.

Hofburg had a rough time trying to make his move on the outside.

All they have to do is improve his START.

He is a Euro. They simply don't run/believe in fast dirt racing like we do in the States.


Can't find it, but even Aiden O'Brien was overwhelmed in the Kentucky Derby and had never felt that much pressure. Can't recall the article, but sure it can be googled, but in essence, he fully felt the "out of the gate" need in American racing. The bumping and grinding that comes with it and how unprepared he, and Mendelssohn, really were.


They were flat out overwhelmed.


I love that he is going to bring back Mendelssohn to the States this summer and pointing to the BC Classic.



He'll be running him twice before the BC Classic. Assuming he runs good enough to get in the race. I love every ounce of it.

We will see!!

I dont use the Belmont results for handicapping.

About half the field cant get the distance, so that leaves 5 horses, then any horse who were close to justify likely will fade, so he had to outfinish Vino Rosso and Hoffberg, horses who had never ran a fast race and were questionable class wise.

He ran well, all credit, I look forward to betting against him because of this Belmont result.

Gronk needs to run in the Haskell. They might have to shut down Jersey if he does.

it was great though to see the celeb Gronk rooting for the horse, thats the essence of the sport right there.

Aiden is finally doing what he should have done all along. Prep for American dirt races in America.

That would be an addtional feather in his cap to expand into US dirt racing.

However, as it stands, Obrien broke the world record for group 1 victories in a calendar year last year, eclipsing the mark set by the US-based Bobby Frankel in 2003.

I don't think he exactly "needs" to accomplish more, I mean, he has broken every record worth breaking and won every race worth winning in Europe and beyond, and in spite of it, seems to be a very humble and polite person, and is quite well known for sharing credit of victories with all the employees of his Ballydoyle stable and the Coolmore stud......he is pretty well known for his extreme modesty.

So not sure what you mean by "all along"....

He doesn't "need" to run in our races at all. I certainly wouldn't miss him if he went away.

But if he wants to not make a complete fool of himself in American dirt racing, he needs to adapt to American methods if he insists on running here
