America's Day at the races

FOX screws racing fans again today - pulls the telecast at 4:00 to go to a football game NOT listed on the schedule - then shows a message on the bottom crawl - coming up next - ASDATR!

Lying incompetent a holes.

FOX is an embarrassment to the game wit hit's totally air-head scheduling.
NYRA - find a REAL TV network to show your product. Theses guys are pathetic.

Anyone having trouble with RTN today? NO audio for FOX or Belmont channels.

Finally got it on You Tube.

Redboard 10-10-2020 05:18 PM

They switch to FS2 for the two big G1 races, for no apparent reason, then go back to FS1 for the last two races.

It was because of football running long. The game that was on Fox, OU / Texas, went way over time, so the next game was moved to FS1, racing bumped to FS2. Racing is always going to play second fiddle to college football obviously. I don't mind flipping around channels to see racing on mainstream channels.

The coverage and picture quality is good but it's more difficult to DVR the entire card that it was on TVG.

Tee 10-11-2020 11:11 AM

Watch the youtube feed on the tv or computer.

the entire show is always on one of the MSG channels, usually uninterrupted

spiketoo 10-11-2020 12:11 PM

Yeah RTN feed was weird. Watching with KEE with the multi tracks setup and sound would keep dropping. Funny tho when I switched b/t FOX and BEL feeds the sound would return.

This is what I do too. I think that's the way to go.

BarchCapper 10-11-2020 07:04 PM

Today may have been the worst - FS2 for a HALF HOUR, then FS1, then FS2, and then FS1 again. AND THAT WAS SCHEDULED!!!!

I feel like I'm watching those old Monty Pythons - "And now on BBC1, a man beating his head against the wall" :bang:

depalma113 10-12-2020 06:18 AM

The complaints about this are beyond laughable.

Fox is contracted to air Big 12 Football. They have 3 channels Fox, FS1 and FS2. The second game was scheduled to start on Fox, but the first game ran long.

Fox must show the start of the second game. So it moves to FS1.

In an effort to not screw over horse racing fans, Fox airs racing on FS2 until the contractual obligations for Big 12 Football are satisfied.

Years ago ESPN used to pre-empt the Travers for Little League Baseball and you had nowhere to go. They wouldn't switch the coverage to one of their other networks. You were just screwed.

Fox at least gives horse racing fans an opportunity to see the show.

What is most amazing is you pressed the keys on your computer or phone well over 100 times to complain, yet you only had to press your remote control once to watch the races.

I covered the football thing a few posts ago.

The only issue is a lot of people don't have FS2. But as has been noted, it is available on Youtube as well.

The MiG was great today. Been on air for a long couple hours and he has been very enjoyable today.

Iíve always loved the guy.......but today has been great.

I hope not!
Usually airs Weds-Sun showing two tracks a day...whatever is running in NY and one other track (CD or Parx lately).
I watch almost every day; excellent show.

Yeah horse racing just wouldn't be the same without this show. I just can't find it in the program schedule but I had brought up the youtube feed before so I will check there on Wed. I just don't see how they are not going to be on Thursday thru Sunday at least covering Aquaduct.

the little guy 11-30-2020 11:38 PM

The show will return for its regular run in April and run again until the end of November. Perhaps there will be some weekend shows during the Winter...though don't hold me to that:-)

We are doing a 90 minute show, from 3 to 4:30 ET, this coming Saturday. I know it will be on MSG+ but at this time I do not believe anywhere else ( I imagine it will also be on youtube but would have to check ).

I am glad to hear you have enjoyed it. We will see you next year.

SaratogaSteve 12-19-2020 04:25 PM

did NYRA stop streaming the in-house feed on it's YT page? I could find Talking Horses, but not the feed - I miss the prattle, and watching on YT.

Thanks!

metro 12-20-2020 01:33 PM

It's 1:30 (est) and 4 races are already in the books on Aqueduct's Sunday card. What's the hurry?

castaway01 12-20-2020 01:45 PM

I hate to speculate because TLG will probably come along and smack me, but this is not a new situation. The NJ Bets site shows the stream but has never aired the prattle either. The video works but goes silent for the prattle. I'd say it's a rights issue but I don't know what the distinction would be. Just saying it's not new or an error but has always been that way when taking the straight track feed.

I'm guessing it will return in April when America's Day at the Races resumes it's regular schedule.

The track announcers there will tell you - when that last race comes along, though it may look brighter on your TV screen - the horses are very difficult for them to make out in the increasing darkness. When they make their return on New Year's Eve, the days will already be getting longer.

Ray Donovon 12-20-2020 07:59 PM

Itís brutal watching the blurred feed from a TVG. The high definition on day at the races is awesome to watch. It does take a bit of getting used to because of the non pan shot coverage that shows good views of some things, but false hope during other shots.

No itís not. Itís because the world is plotting to annoy Tom.

This is good news. I've visited the local watering hole a few times being socially distant. The races usually had a TV when I got there. That's new. I know a few folks that have gone from only betting big days to playing the ponies now and again.

affirmedny 01-20-2021 08:46 PM

Back on this weekend, Fri-Sun

Secondbest 01-20-2021 08:51 PM

Good to know.

the little guy 01-20-2021 09:11 PM

We are on Friday thru Sunday this weekend, and every weekend ( there may be one or two that are only Saturday ) until we start again daily in April.

The schedule is on the website....

Congrats Andy on the gig! Look forward to it.

the little guy 01-20-2021 10:58 PM

Thanks Ralph. Much appreciated

myohmyjustify 01-21-2021 11:53 AM

Very good news. Enjoyed the shows last year and learned a lot. Congrats.

Tom 03-06-2021 04:00 PM

So what's up today?
No YouTube broadcast - only shows you can set a reminder, but no show.
RTN - video, no audio.
Fox - a lousy hour scheduled

Total waste of time.

Redboard 03-06-2021 04:19 PM

Yea, TVG showed the Tom Fool on a delay. I also noticed that NYRA doesnt have any picks on their Talking Horses site.
Quite frankly I haven't played much since the Breeders Cup, so I'm not sure whether this is the new normal or not.

deathandgravity 03-06-2021 04:45 PM

I know TVG is an easy target, but why would you tape delay a Grade III to show a claiming race? Makes no sense. :bang:

I do wonder if they are contractually required to show SA live?

JustRalph 03-06-2021 05:15 PM

Tuned in for the races on Foxsports and a ladies basketball game was in overtime.

Turned out to be 5 min of pretty good basketball.

cj 03-06-2021 06:17 PM

Andy tweeted out the Fox show would be on Youtube until hoops was over.

As for TVG, it sucks, but they are contracted to show the Santa Anita races. Been that way for a long time now, not sure why people still get surprised.
