I upgraded my Samsung Slate tablet from Win7 to Win8. And I stress I upgraded (ie. took the lazy way out) and did not do a clean install.
The only trouble so far is that it won't let me update the Wireless LAN driver...every time I try and do so, I get a blue screen of death (and the Windows 8 BSOD now sports a Google-inspired FROWNY FACE :-( )...even if I try and simply disable the device or the driver, I get a BSOD.
The wireless device works perfectly nonetheless...I apparently will never be able to update the driver...lol
Other than that, it's interesting...I don't think I would ever put Windows 8 on something that doesn't have a touch screen connected to it.....

I spent some time playing with a MS Surface Pro tablet yesterday at the Microsoft Store in Toronto. Win 8 Pro 64 bit. Actually pretty sweet, though expensive.
A bit heavier than my iPad, a bit wider; it felt fine in one hand. The tactile keyboard was also fine to use (in a pinch) and as a cover. The built in kick-stand seemed ergonomic. The built in stylus was VERY responsive to use (better than the one with my Samsung Note 2 phone, though I'll probably lose it). NO cellular data - wireless only, by design they said: 'everyone has a data plan on their phone and everyone carries their phone; why have 2 separate plans?'. But that's an excuse, IMO: my iPad only costs me an extra $10 to piggy back on my phone data plan.
Touch screen felt very familiar and responsive. Bluetooth for external keyboard and mouse; display port for external HD displays; USB 3 for backups, a micro-SD slot. It felt like a 'real' computer, for real (and familiar) work with Windows - not like my iPad (a cute 'toy', and without Flash).
I can't wait to load my stuff on it (next month).

I installed Win 8 Pro 64 bit on my Samsung Slate the same way you did, via upgrade. I had trouble with installing some drivers until I installed the Samsung Software Upgrade Utility in Win 8. Currently the driver I have for wireless LAN is version 15.3.50.2. According to the Samsung utility that is the most current wireless LAN driver.

That's exactly what I was using....their Upgrade Utility.
Other drivers they said that needed upgrading (Bluetooth for instance) worked without a hitch, but the Wireless LAN is a serious problem for some reason...
And like I said, I can't even disable the device via Device Manager without causing a BSOD. I guess I should just be thankful my wireless LAN works at all...lol
I also tried messing around in safe mode, and that didn't seem to work either, but more investigation is probably warranted in that regard.

The Bluetooth driver and several of the sensor drivers are what I had a problem with updating. What version of the LAN driver do you have? If it is the same as I posted earlier than it should be OK.

Problem solved:
Turns out, the Cisco VPN client app was the reason why I couldn't do anything with my Wireless LAN without causing a BSOD.
I went to try and Remote Access my work PC on my Slate, and it wouldn't work. I knew you had to reinstall the Cisco VPN client app after upgrading to Windows 8, but for some reason, I could have sworn I saw itself do just that after Windows 8 finished installing itself. It's a long story not worth trying to explain.
Anyway, I uninstalled the Cisco VPN, then I tried to update my Wireless LAN driver again, and bingo, it worked without a hitch. No more BSODs...
Reinstalled the cisco VPN program, and that works now as well...now where did I leave my snow shovel?

Glad you got it worked out.
The Slate with Win 8 Pro is pretty slick when everything works as it is supposed to. The touch & stylus navigation works well in Win 8.
I originally got the Samsung folio case for it shortly after I got it.
It was OK but I never really liked it.
I just got a new case with Bluetooth Keyboard built in.
Here's a link to it:
Adesso Compagno 3S - Bluetooth 3.0 Keyboard with Carrying Case for Samsung Slate PC XE700T1A - Adesso Inc ::: Your Input Device Specialist ::: Keyboards | Mice | Touchpads | Tablets | Barcode Scanners | Mac Solutions | I/O Accessories
Got if from Amazon for ~ $75.
I really like it for the Slate. Keyboard is easily removed as it's held by magnets.
When I got the Slate I bought the package with the dock and Samsung keyboard, so I wasn't to excited about getting another keyboard. Now that I have it I'm glad I got it. Makes for a much more practical solution when I need to use a keyboard with the Slate.

Funny you mention that case...I was just looking at it online last night!
I have the Samsung folio case...don't like that there is no place for stylus.
Speaking of styluses, have you found a better one for the slate?
BTW, just read reviews of your case on Amazon...they point out potential problems using it with Windows 8 and some of the swipe gestures...have you run into any such problems?

I added a loop to the Samsung case that holds the stylus.
Got it on Amazon - Leuchtturm1917 Self Adhesive Pen Loop Notebook Accessory
I got a different stylus - NEW Axiotron Studio Pen Modbook Tablet PC's By Wacom-NEW Axiotron Studio Pen Modbook Tablet PC's By Wacom.
Much heavier than the original Samsung one although I use that one also.
I haven't run into any problems using the new case; I saw the same reviews so I took a chance. Maybe they modified it from the original release; the screen is not covered by the "frame" the case slips into.

I'm not very good on my computers, even though I've been using them since 1997..... :(
My friend in Florida just put Windows 8 on her computer and is having a difficult time with it....she's a little better on her computer than I am.
So.....I'm not anxious to switch.
I bought an iPad last year, took it home for a day, was frustrated with it, took it back. I saw a little boy about 3 years old yesterday...working his iPad............very disheartening for me.........I'm nearly 70!
I'm on a crappy HP laptop.
If I didn't like this board that much, I think I would junk my computer and go off line! :bang: :bang: :bang:
SIGH
