Pat Day Mile

The good thing about the Pat Day Mile is that a number of horses are coming out of the major Derby preps. That could help clarify the quality of some of those fields.

The race is the 3yo debut of Jack Christopher. You may not be able to get a read on the others if he runs back to his 2YO form.

If Jack Christopher is as good as he looked in the Champagne and ready off the layoff imo you can still get a bit of read based on who runs well behind him.

If he runs good wonder if Preakness would be next.

:1: Major General 9/2: The rail and running style say he will be close to the lead. Going to be busy up there and he is not as good as others.

:2: Trademark 20/1: Hard call on this guy. Odds are right but the talent is questionable. Could use in a spread situation.

:3: Pappacap 6/1: Ran a couple of races at 2 that are good enough. Has not ran back to that yet at 3. Not a bet, at 6/1.

:4: Ben Diesel 20/1: Seems sort of average here. Nothing really stands out. Pass.

:5: Jack Christopher 2/1: Have to wonder why this horse was not in any major preps this year. First time facing 3 yr olds is a reason to bet against. Probably has run the fastest races, so betting against lightly.

:6: Tejano Twist 10/1: Like this one. The distance is a big concern. Need higher odds to play, but at the right number, could be played.

:7: Howling Time 30/1: One of the ones I can play lightly. Gets back to the first two races and can win.

:8: Kavod 20/1: Speed and fade, speed and fade........

:9: Trafalgar 20/1: Do not see it, has to improve a lot to contend let alone win here.

:10: Doppelganger 6/1 Can win, that said, will be bet. Would not surprise me, pass.

:11: My Prankster 4/1: If I was serious about trying to beat Jack, this would be the one.

:12: O Captain 20/1: Oh no way....
