Stephen Foster - Gr1

Featuring the return of Gun Runner, back from his Dubai trip and excellent 2nd place finish to the king of dirt racing, Arrogate.
He will be formidable...working steadily over a track he loves. Gives at least 5lbs to everyone in the field.

I will take a shot at beating them all with the :4: Honorable Duty, who is as honest as the day is long...he's ALWAYS there & has a stellar record on fast dirt and at CD. Trainer is kicking ass this meet, will get a good pace to shoot at, has Javier in for the ride, his best can compete with anyone in this field. If GR doesn't bring his A-Game this guy can win it. Has been more tractable since the hood came off four races ago, and he'll need that tonight.
6-1 ML probably will not hold up. Expect more like 4-1 at post time.

He hung a bit in his last off his lifetime best BRIS figure. The timing is right for him to run back to that FG number. Can get a nice inside stalking trip & switch out when the time is right. The :1::3::8: may get going up front and set the table for his move.

Who ya' got?

**on a side note, it is great to see an old favorite trainer of mine, Wesley Hawley, with an entrant in this Gr1. He has run a SOLID outfit at FG and surrounding tracks for many years....:6: Hawaakom looks to be in a bit over his head against these, but maybe can grab a small slice if this pace gets too hot. I'll be rooting for you Wesley:ThmbUp:

I'll try to get :5: Mo Tom on a ticket.

I hardly ever even look at CD, but from what I have tonight, it appears to be very tight model for winners there.

Low class, slow horses outrun the faster, classier ones every race.

I'm trying to get #:2: Breaking Lucky either 1st or 2nd. He clearly doesn't like it wet judging by his two off track races. He bounced back off his other wet track flop with a solid second in the Clark last fall. His race 2 back was very strong and is a solid price.

Since my race 3 hit I've been passing on chalk or mystified elsewhere. Taking some sizable exactas on Texas Chrome with top 2. :7: box :3::4:

Bird Song rated....OK

Not really impressed with that win.
Main speed never fired and the rest never made any kind of serious moves. Cheap speed was not giving up ground to much better horses in earlier races, so this was a yawner coming home.

Grade 1?

I thought GR's turn of foot the last quarter was good.

A closer has won every single dirt race tonight. In what race did cheap speed not give it up to much better horses?

CincyHorseplayer 06-17-2017 10:01 PM

We're just seeing some good horses get back to normal! Not adding $ to the roll but swell enough!:D

GMB@BP 06-17-2017 10:02 PM

Other than the absolutely uncontested lead I dont know how you can knock that performance. Fast.

I doubt Baffert lets that horse just lope on the lead in the classic, I am sure with More Spirit and Cupid in the race there will be real pace pressure.

I was referring to the 7th - #7 drew away from the #5 late. Yes he was caught by the 1...not the point.

Feel free to be impressed. I wasn't.
