I am not at all sure I believe this, but maybe some of you should consider this.

need an odds making lesson.I suspect it is much greater than that, maybe a million times greater. Time and space are vast, but we are just starting to see how vast. Maybe a million civilizations have found each other? Why should we be so lucky?

There was more garbage in that article than in my trash can. I could refute all of it, but why bother.

If there is intelligent life, or life of any form, elsewhere in the universe, it certainly makes sense that it would encounter the same forces of mass extinction we've seen here on earth.

But even more importantly, IMHO, is the time and space dimensions in play. While the earth is 4.5 Billion years old, give or take a few decades, man has only evolved to a point within the last few thousand years to be considered "intelligent", though of course that's up for debate. And only within the last 130 years or so, has man invented radio which would make our version of life detectable (or at least one way it could be detected). So, those earliest of radio waves, and even the SOS from the Titanic, are just now edging past 100 light years away from the planet, which is like setting sail for England in a rowboat from Atlantic City, and not even having the entire boat off the sand yet.

In other words, we shouldn't be too surprised that we haven't discovered life elsewhere.

However, when the day comes that intelligent alien life discovers us, and parks their star cruiser out by the moon, it'll be time to sell that Apple stock you've been hanging on to...

That answers the age old mystery as to why T-Rex never developed space travel.

The article talks about six mass extinction events, and this "charismatic paleontologist" says that they were caused by greenhouse gases. Given no apparent evidence that any of those extinct species had developed the internal combustion engine or other major uses of evil carbon-based fuels, what caused global warming in the past? Woolly mammoth farts?

Every one of the extinction events over the past 500M years were caused by extraterrestrial objects slamming into Earth or by volcanic activity. Some may say that volcanism released CO2, therefore that is the cause, but it isn't that simple. In at least two cases, it was the release of sulpher creating sulphuric acid that helped kill off life.

Simple answers to our planet....30% is land.....70% is water. I will connect the dots...70% is portable.

I am wondering if they will ever discover intelligent life on EARTH!

That was my reaction, also.

The latent message of the article is that development of civilization causes climate change.
The climate has always been changing.
Where I live today, there used to be thousands of feet of ice above the ground that my house is on. It melted and that melt wasn't due to automobile emissions.
The amount caused by civilization is still very much debatable.

Not if they look at the Democratic party they won't.

If they look at the Republican party they will nuke us for sure.

Who says there has been no proof of aliens from another planetary system?

There's been plenty of proof. It's either been not reported or classified as a hoax or covered up or however else you want to put it.

Hell, there are well known NASA astronauts out there...guys who walked on the moon, who will tell you without a doubt there are aliens from another planet out there...and that they've seen them or were told about them.

why not believe in aliens if you believe in man made global warming
