Nobody in the business ever got paid overtime.
I worked on the harness side. Had a buddy who was groom for both breeds. Now of course this was a long time ago...Anyway, I was paid a dollar amount per horse per day. Of course its a 7 day week.
During my short tenure, I took care of two.
The only time when I had any long days was on race days. Other than that. It was go into work in the morning. Feed, muck the stalls. If one or both were going to jog, I'd grab the tack. Get the horse ready to head over to the track. Most times the trainer would jog the horse. Sometimes I would do it. I'd get done with that, usually 2 or three miles. Bring the horse back to the barn. Remove the tack, give the horse a washdown, put the horse in the stall water, feed( light) clean tack, stow it....Done-ski...That all happened by 10 am. The rest of the day was mine. All done in 3.5 to 4hrs. Now, there were other grooms who were highly experienced who took care of 3. And if they were all in training, they worked a lot of hours...BUT.....The owners usually gave bonuses for having a winner. Or they may have made a wager on the horse for the groom and if the wager hit, gave the money to the groom.
I don't think the suit will go anywhere.
Of course, this is wacky , nutty California. Where up is down and logic has been evicted from the state.
