Factor poll

When racing starts again, horses will be coming back after an extended layoff.

What do you think will be the most important factor in handicapping until we reach a new normal?

CheckMark 04-18-2020 08:02 AM

maybe layoffs???

But seriously I would have to say either speed ratings or class ratings since it can show how fast the horse previously was and also how classy the horse is if he was either racing in higher company

Nice pool Ray!

Before I start betting them, I would wait for them to have a race or two under their belts.

That requires the patience of a Buddhist monk.

SB
You've got that right, hold off for a couple of weeks.
Besides the layoff, there's another factor that should make for interesting prices .....

Bye Bye to
Nick Surick..............Freehold
Rene Allard ............Yonkers
Richard Banca.........Yonkers
Chris Oakes............Pokie
. .(Hunter Oakes ?)

Totally agree with you on that. Hard to judge a horse on very few starts or no starts at all.

If we truly get drugs out of the way, trainer won't mean anywhere near as much as it has.

Yes it will. The Trainer will play a major role.

I think that trainer is important, for sure, but the doping has been so rampant in harness racing that when playing tracks like Yonkers, Harrahs Philly, Pocono, you basically had to handicap the doping. Same for the flats at certain tracks. I would open up the Monmouth program and in any race where Navarro had a horse that was first or second time off the claim, I didn't bother looking at the race.

Exactly why harness racing will never see another penny of my money.

Really Mason? I guess you are a thoroughbred fan. Thats fine with me.

Plenty of doping going on in the flats as well. Navarro, who they caught, was one of the worst I've ever seen, made it difficult to handicap Monmouth.

Yes Navarro is such a horrible guy. No idea why tracks kept letting his horses race there

True. They should have banned him, everyone knew that he was a crook.

HHE10 04-30-2020 09:26 AM

So is Rene Allard. Got banned at Woodbine back in 2017 with a positive test on a horse and got himself kicked out of Canada.

He got arrested a few weeks ago in Vegas for doping and is banned for I think pretty much life. He shouldn't race another horse for the rest of his life.

He should have his Hambletonian Oaks removed too, even if that horse wasn't drugged
