Not far fetched but much to my disappointment as I was holding several future pool Epicenter/Zandon exacta boxes. For some reason I didn't use the All Others option as much like I usually do. Had it with Epi for a buck or two that covers all the other bets. Still... Oops.

So, a little bit of Stan Caris peeked out. The Raise a Native Sire line rules! As he had said in his book, if you just used this to bet you have score some nice wins. I never checked this guys sire line I played all of the other RAN horses. That’s what you get when you ignore the AE’s.

I did like that Jeff Ruby Steaks race. I had Tiz the Bomb and Tawny Port on the bottom of exotics.

When Stolen Base won the 9th, is reassured me that it was a live race. Wasn't smart enough to include Rich Strike, although would never have had any on top. They were all gonna be closing. Just didn't see him as being the most effective closer in the bunch. The 3 horses from that race finished 1st, 7th, and 9th. Pretty solid for horses that went off at 80/1, 80/1, and 33/1.

Gotta hand it to Sonny Leon as well. Great ride.

Epicenter ran huge. He was 5th after 6Fs. Nobody else in the top 8 after 6F finished in the top half of the field.

Fair to say Keen Ice's price for stud of $7,500 just went up.

Can’t believe the RAN line hit W/O the final fractions rule.

I caught the triple with mostly luck.

The handicapping was good, but catching the 80-1 on top is all luck

Fightingirish51195 05-07-2022 09:18 PM

Even if his times fit the RAN qualification. Even if he’s a RAN. Even if he has the best TFUS LATE PACE. I can’t endorse him to win. I just cant

Reed has trained on the KY/Ohio circuit for over 30 years, never heard of him being a vet. Equibase shows he has over 22 million in career earnings, not bad with middle of the road kind of stock.

And how about the brilliant claim back in September in a $30K Maiden at Churchill?

Horse had only ran once and finished dead last in a Maiden race at Ellis Park. In the race they put in a claim for him he blitzes the field by 17.

I saw on Twitter, assuming its true, the trainer had not won a stake race in 5 years going 0/51.

Just pulled it up in Equibase. Rich Strike is the only horse he has that has even ran in a stakes race this year, so it is probably right.

This is his 2nd career Graded Stakes race win.

Gotta love this kind of feel good story.

I think its great...Mine That Bird feels like Gun Runner compared to this horse but in the end its their names that are etched in history.

I played the race for a meltdown and he still wasn’t on my list of possibilities, let alone my list of contenders.

This was one of the biggest meltdowns you are going to see.

Anyone close was obviously dead. But IMO, even the horses that were well off the pace early while wide were used so hard just trying to hold their position they were finished before the stretch. You had to be well off the pace and saving at least some ground or you were kind of screwed.

No doubt.

And now for the really really crazy part.

Rich Strike made up 15 lengths on Epicenter in the final quarter. Epicenter had just taken the lead at the top of the stretch, and Rich Strike was 15th and over 14 back. Ended up winning by 3/4s a length. Calc'd his final quarter in roughly :22 and 3 as the actual final quarter went in :25.65.

I had the 6th place horse, Barber Road, at (I think) 53-1. Just thought he'd outrun those odds. Moral victory, I guess, lol.

horsefan2019 05-07-2022 10:29 PM

I watched the replay and Rich Strike was at the back of the field for most of the race. The NBC cameras didn't even show him in the frame for most of the race. It was only during the turn for home did we see him make his big move to the front and boy did he accelerate like a rocket.

Looked like a race car
