Horse euthanized, Cardenas might have some facial injuries according to Maggie.

NYRA has blocked out the replays of this race for whatever reason. They show the first 10 seconds and it cuts off. Usually if there is a spill or accident they blur or cut out that part and resume the replay. My guess is they don’t want the negative publicity and the anti horse race protesters setting up shop at Toga the whole season. Terrible news for the horse and condolences go out to the connections. Glad to hear jockey is doing ok.

Horse should have never been allowed in the starting gate. No workouts since May. Two races this year both bombs. Trainer knew the horse had only one run left in him, and chose to do it in front of the nation. Scumbag.

There certainly wasn’t any rationale to think the horse would be able to compete to break its maiden at Saratoga. My initial thought before I immediately tossed it was that the owners wanted to watch their horse run at Saratoga

The horse ran a race on June 25, 2010 at Belmont (21 days ago). You have no idea what the trainer knew

It is pretty standard for any race with a breakdown or a spill to edit out the incident on the Roberts replays, which I don't like but understand, but to cut the whole race is just dumb.
You can see it here if you really want to watch it, near the end of course:
What annoys me most about this is that the horse was clearly done, was backing up and darn near last, and shortly before the breakdown the jockey cracks him with the whip.

No problem with coming back in three weeks, but why no works since May 23rd? The winner, Uncle's Gem, ran the same race, but worked last week.
It just looks damn suspicious.
Hope Cardenas is OK.

The most ridiculous example of this was Santa Anita / calracing deleted Vino Rosso's entire BC Classic from its database because a breakdown happened behind him.
That race, of course, was broadcast on NBC and is very widely available.

The horse ran races on June 4 and the 25th. The horse probably just galloped between 6/25 and 7/16. You'd like to see a maintenance work in there, but it's really not that unusual.

Certainly don't wish an injury on anyone, but maybe he'll be reluctant to use the whip on a horse that is clearly finished in the future.
