another new low for Santa Anita

On Sunday they ran a MCL16000 race. Lowest maiden claimer I can ever remember, and they still only got six horses to run in it.

You're late to the show. That was the 2nd one. They ran that condition for the first time about 3 weeks earlier. Got another one coming up Saturday 2/17.

Did you see the $16,000 claimer for state-breds a couple weeks ago?

cj 02-14-2018 11:26 PM

They can't afford to lose horses, what else are they going to do?

I didn't see that, is it possible it was an optional claimer? They had those at Del Mar.

Tom 02-15-2018 08:39 AM

This time next month, this will no longer be a new low.

maybe the claiming price is getting more realistic

RunDustyRun 02-15-2018 11:13 AM

six runners is more than the average number of horses per race at Aqueduct today...

And that's before scratches.

Straight claiming. I do remember that a state-bred OCl was written with a $16K tag rather than the usual $20K, but I thought it was at LosAl. I could be wrong, it may have been at Del Mar, but I do also remember the race.

Isn't SA suppose to be premiere meet during the winter?

More excuses from the Cal players about how poor their product has become.

Santa Anita is THE premier winter meet in North America. That just shows you how bad the product is nationwide, not just at SA.

I didn't see any posters making excuses for SA in this thread, but maybe you read something I didn't.

Quit bitching

Either play the hand your dealt or don't play, the game has evolved to what we got, same thing at Gulfstream......SMH

Agree. I like to think we're discussing, not bitching. Maybe discussing with a little whine poured over it, but discussing all the same.

And I also hate losing more than I love winning. At least I always have some kind of a bankroll that way. Make them drag it out of you. Make them offer you value for your money. That's the only way they should ever get it out of you, IMHO.

SA up 14% in so far, field size up so far at same time last time.

Its not great, but its not doom and gloom either.

Along with Oaklawn I think it is the best product out there this time of year.

ultracapper 02-22-2018 01:20 PM

Does Ritvo get the credit for SA's improvements numbers-wise?

As a dedicated SoCal player, I haven't had much to complain about since Christmas. It's always a drag to see the deterioration of the conditions book, but as it's been posted here by our esteemed contributor, they can't afford to see the lower level horses ship out.

I give him credit for trying new things, not sure anything he has done makes a difference, weather and economy has to have helped the most.

GMB@BP 03-04-2018 10:02 AM

I cant bet todays card, its horrendous. no stakes race either.

no thx

Bennie 03-04-2018 10:36 AM

i am only taking a stab at the pick-6 and late pick 4. I like a single in the 5th and have the 4th, 6th and 9th down to 2 horses so I will throw a couple of plays on the multi's and maybe a small wager of some sort on the 2 horse in the 5th, the 1 horse in the 6th and the 4 horse in the 9th. You can have the rest of the card.:puke:

I agree with the bad card. As per DRF there was no stakes race because it did not fill. Was suppose to be the Tiznow Stakes.

To be fair I don't think there is one stakes race being run in all of North America today.

jocko699 03-04-2018 04:38 PM

R3 Maiden 50 just blistered a final eighth in over 15 seconds:pound::pound::pound:

Florida Derby horse?

ultracapper 03-07-2018 06:49 PM

Saturday March 10

11 races

109 horses

Just like the good ole days. They won't be able to fill another card for 2 weeks, but Big Cap day oughtta bring back the old feel.

Yep. And the feature, the San Felipe, has a great field!

Oh, wait, you mean the Big Cap is the feature? Damn.

tcasolo 03-10-2018 09:23 AM

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

upthecreek 03-16-2018 10:01 AM

Guaranteed pick 4 comes up short

I don't think there was less than a MCl $20,000 all winter at AQU.

GMB@BP 03-25-2018 12:57 PM

SA is way up though this year, in terms of money and field size, so something is going right.

I think I saw a stat that SA and GP up 14%, all other tracks down 2% combined. Kinda odd given the economy, everyone should be up.

Oaklawn is up even w/horrible weather. I read somewhere, Hot Springs broke the monthly record for rainfall in February by something like 4 inches

GMB@BP 05-13-2018 11:06 AM

5 out of 9 races are maiden claimers today

I can't waste my time with that. Looks like its going to be a slow 2-months until Del Mar.

Why don't you like maiden claimers?
