What Could Have Been?

f2tornado made a great post about Shared Belief, and unfortunately got me thinking.

What other horses in the past could have been great?

Shared Belief was 10 for 12 lifetime. Only losses were a breakdown and a crap trip in 14 horse BC Classic field.

I also think back to Eskendereya. Failed mightily in the BC Juvy, but was getting demonstrably better each time out as a 3YO. Was going to be the favorite in the KY Derby.

Barbaro's time was obviously cut too short.

Who ya got?

Flightline?

Landaluce is the most obvious one I remember.

Lost in the Fog was incredible before he sadly became ill.

Ha, not the line of thought I was thinking, but yes, would have been nice to see him run more than once a season.

Ran some Secretariat kinds of numbers, but ran all of 6 races. Absolute freak for sure, but how can anybody be a fan of a horse that runs as often as the Detroit Lions win a football game?

Great thread topic...

Thinking recently, I'll mention Epicenter who, in my humble opinion, could have developed into a very good older horse.

Landaluce was amazing. A serious "What could have been".

Felt Lost in the Fog got exposed. Then again, I did have Silver Train. Really hard to be a dominant turf sprinter.

McCleans Music. Did he not get a 114 Beyer in his only race?

And out of left field...

Ha. He is still siring. :21.24, :43.48, :55.05, and 1:07.44 and he was done. Every time I see him as the sire, I know speed is coming.

Great call.

Bellamy Road?

You don't run a track record in the Wood and be a chump. I believe it was a 120 Beyer or some crazy number.

1:34.41 and 1:47.16. Won by a football field. Scrappy T was 3rd and ran a bang up 2nd in the Preakness.

Ran 2nd in the Travers to Flower Alley.

Landaluce all the way.

Yeah, she was pretty good.

My recoleection of Landaluce at Del Mar

No, its not even the race above. It was how she looked in the paddock. To that day and to today she was the most majestic horse I had ever seen. I watch Lucas saddle her and remember it to this day.
