His sound lives on......Marty Stuart and his fab superlatives cut an album called “way out west” a couple years ago. I saw them here in Houston. It was a great show.

Here’s one of the cuts. Dick Dale inspired for sure. I spoke with Marty after the show, he said Dick Dale and California culture was where he was going with the album.

The image I have of him is from a beach movie, I think, where he surfs in to the beach off a big roller and then runs up on a stage in his board shorts and bare feet, grabs his guitar and just starts playing for the teens in attendance. His band, of course, is waiting for him there and it's a par tay.

Maybe that's just my memory. ;)

Don’t think so. He may have been an innovator as far as the surf sound goes but his playing was average at best. The Ventures were way better.
