RIP Mr. McCovey

Saw him hit the longest homerun I have ever seen at Dodger Stadium in the 70's.

My favorite baseball player of all time."Stretch " had such a smooth swing yet he was always able to generate a lot of power even with a slender but tall (6'5" IIRC) frame.Loved to watch him hit.

I saw the news. Makes me feel old.

I miss those SF Giant team's of my teen years, McCovey, Bonds, Lanier, Fuentes, Hiatt, the Alou Brothers...Et al. But more than that, I miss that era of baseball and it's atmosphere, it's been long gone, then they killed it for me with the Strike of '94....Never went back.

Rest in peace

Saw him with Mays, Jim Ray Hart, Orlando Cepeda in the early 60's bang

homer after homer in batting practice at Old Shibe Park or Connie Mack

Stadium in Philly. Saw him at the tail end of his career with the A's. Everybody

who was tall and lanky was called Stretch back in those days. :rip:

Only WS game I ever saw live, 1962, Giants vs. Yankees at the Stadium. I got in for free as the bandboy for the Seuffert Band which was playing the anthem and other pieces before the game. My dad, a Giant fan, played in the band.

Found a spot to stand and remember McCovey lining out to Bobby Richardson to end a late-inning rally for the Giants. RIP.

One of my childhood favorites, may he RIP.

I was in grade school when they made it to the WS, I told my brother they'd go back to several more series with that lineup. My older brother, in high school and knew better , corrected me. "Pitching and defense is all that matters. The Dodgers and cardinals will dominate the next few years."

He was right, but the Giants were fun. The lineup for the Pirates of the 70s were the Giants of the 60s IMO. Tough lineup to face.

We went to see the Giants play the Phillies late in McCovey's career. After the game, Willie stood outside the Vet in a nice suit, signing autographs for an hour. Real gentleman. None of the Phils were out there. RIP.

Probably pitcher's most feared left handed hitter of his time. I saw him play in the old Astrodome many times. His line-drive foul balls into seats along the 1st base side was a trademark also, kept fans that knew him on their toes.
Rest in Peace...tough guy.
