Did horseracing ever have an early 2000s poker moment with easy money?
 

Early 2000s poker had a lot of easy fish who were not playing that well and smart players could take advantage. Did horse racing ever have that type of moment?

For me, it was the 80's through early 90's.....The sheets were unstoppable back then....Easy money $$.

My oh my how times have changed....Tourneys are the only real edge left, and some horizontals in live play.

I've got to agree. The track was like my ATM. Now, people hardly have to gather data on their own. Between Timeform, DRF and other racing publications you've got most of the information you'll ever need.

That is essentially a description of horse racing. Back in the day, limited availability of good speed figures, today, professional reams armed with SOA computer programs. Today, you don't know the final odds until the horses are turning for home.

My favorite time too, late 80s, early 90s. Simulcasting was exploding and I think there was a lot of uninformed money in the pools at the time.

When Beyers were sold by BRIS, and few had them, it was :headbanger::headbanger::headbanger::headbanger: time at the races!

I remember the sheets guys would have a handicapping show on cable back then (Sportschannel in NY) & I would catch rerun episodes here & there and I couldn't tell for sure if they were doing their analysis before or after the races had been run because it seemed like they were always right. Must've been good times for those players for sure.

They even gave handicapping advice, like on jockeys, switches, etc.
It was like TVG as it was meant to be. :D

Another good time was back when some editions of the Form did not give the fractions. And no one gave race conditions. You just got "Alw" or a claiming price. I used to go through all the charts in the form that I could get a hold of and write down the conditions (we always had the fractions here). I had gaps in info, but sometime I would find horses dropping from open claimers in to nw2 go off at 10-1.

Back in the 70-80's when a new track would open, it would be easy pickings for a while until the new crowd figured out what was going on.



Back in the days where on track betting was about all there was, the tracks with more of a tourist crowd were always easy. Simulcast wagering put an end to that.

I didn't know this was ever the case. Didn't Beyers show up in the Racing Times (Steve Crist's venture) while it was in business? Were they published by Bris before that?

They were in BRIS when it was the old BBS site.
There was a Beyer Report - listed the last 10 Beyers for each horse - NOT PPs.

This was before Racing Times had them.
Maybe early - mid 80s?
I think I got them on my Tandy 80!
I know I printed them on an old dot matrix. :D

Ok, I'm not old enough. Did BRIS send you a CD-ROM each week? BTW, I believe PMC is presser, middle and closer.

No CD or disk - just download the file for that day's races and print it.

Looking at today's Form and a WB, I see P is front runners - Pace? I think less than 2 lengths.

C is closer over 4 lengths

M must be middle - X - 4 lengths?

Agreed. Back before slots and the casinos stole a lot of the dumb money, back then they were at the track. Also one's own figs and trip notes were worth more back then. Now that info is everywhere.
