Olympiad

Just keeps cranking along. 5 for 5 now in 2022 after his Stephen Foster win today.

Sure, there may be flashier in the division like Flightline and Life is Good, but this guy may have earned some more respect as a serious BC Classic contender today with an impressive win.

Here is to hoping they all stay healthy, and some 3YOs develop even more. Older male division feels to be building.

Mott for months been crying he wants to win a Grade 1 race with Olympiad.

Why doesn't he try running him in one?

Horse was tailor made on pedigree & running style for the Met Mile and was a no-show (along with a half a dozen other horses).

If by "early stage" he means the "early stage after the oblivious Mott finally put him back on dirt", Cigar was a 3-time Grade 1 winner in the first 5 dirt starts including a 10 furlong race and a race against the best horse in the world (Holy Bull).

Throwaway comment but great for Twitter purposes I suppose.

One Grade 1 in his first five dirt starts.

He ran twice on dirt to begin his career, won an Allowance at Aqueduct, the NYRA Mile, and then I think he won an Allowance at Gulfstream before the Donn.

You're slipping. It happens to the best of us....so why not you.

Once I slip consistently I'll know it's time to shift over to Twitter.

I meant Cigar's first 5 starts once Mott finally put him back on dirt which would include the Donn and Gulfstream Park Handicaps.

However, your version that includes his 2 maiden special weights makes for a more rational comparison with Olympiad.

I have no issue with the way Mott has been handling Olympiad. The horse has generally been improving, had reeled off 4 straight wins, earned 786K going into yesterday, but was not spectacular. Now he has won the Stephen Foster, which ironically looked Grade 1ish even though it was downgraded to Grade 2 in recent years. I’m not sure what’s next on his agenda, but it seems like after that breakout performance it’s time to go big game hunting.

This horse is doing fine. I don’t know why people complain. Like he’s not going to attempt moving up the ladder? I’m pretty sure the Classic is in his site. The thing about these top stars is the 10 furlongs. This horse does 9 fine, so, probably. Then you have Life Is Good and Fightline if they attempt the jump. A match up next month (Whitney) between Olympiad and Life Is Good would be great. The match ups are what get the attention and buzz. Forget about the grade of the races. The fans want to see best vs best. That’s the problem. That field yesterday was competitive and Olympiad crushed them good. He stays on well late . Tough to catch.
