the calendar angle

A friend of mine was watching TVG the other afternoon and the program was about angles and such. One of the angles mentioned was something called the calendar angle. Does anyone know what it is?

If I had to guess it would be about horses getting ready to be year older and losing some value, so they drop looking for wins. Three year olds, for example, won't have many opportunities to compete against there own age group any longer. It used to be "no opportunities" but 4yo only races have sadly become a thing.

That is the only thing I can think of regarding the calendar.

4yo only? really. Hadn't noticed

In No Cal years ago you could not run a 5 or 6 year old (memory not what once was) Maiden. So some wold drop drastically, even ship from So Cal and drop in Dec. in hopes of a win, though some of the sharper barns feasted on this type. What a different world it was.

Been going on for a while, usually (hopefully) only during the first few months of the year.

Great angle... pure numbers play

Bet current race date MM/DD/YY - up to 4 betting numbers, swap in a birthdate if that gets you jazzed.

Play straight EX if 2 numbers POP
Play straight TRI if 3 numbers POP
Play straight SUPER if 4 numbers POP

ex.

10/23/17 = SUPER 1/2/3/7, if 10 horse 10/2/3/7

07/20/17 = TRI 7/2/1

11/17/17 = EX 1/7, if 11 horse TRI 11/1/7

Continue to play until you are broke.
STOP if you get a big score.

Actually have no clue what this angle is but this sounds like a plan when things head south :D

Yep. Santa Anita cards claiming races restricted to 4yos well into March. Been doing it for at least a decade.

how cliche 12-18-2017 10:31 AM

some claimers only run well after a freshening, a prep or two and when the weather is cold.

Could be projecting improvement like Beyer suggested, at 1.5 points per month until the horse reaches 4.5 years of age?

Oh boy. I guess I'd better brace myself for the deluge of spam emails touting "THE New Top Secret Calendar Angle THEY Don't Want You To Know About!":D

I believe it is buying several admissions to Santa Anita on December 26th to gain several 2018 calendars. Also known as turnstile spinning.
