CNN’s profitability declining

Quote:

CNN’s profits are poised to drop below the $1 billion mark for the first time since 2016 as its new boss scrambles for new ways to generate revenue, according to a report.

Chris Licht, who took the helm of CNN three months ago after the surprise exit of former chief executive Jeff Zucker, has not only inherited a scandal-scarred network, but is also running a channel with slumping ratings.

The cable news network’s profitability is on pace to decline to $956.8 million this year, according to projections from S&P Market Intelligence. That’s well short of the company’s internal target of $1.1 billion.

To cull expenses, WarnerBros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav tightened CNN’s travel and expense policy, with work celebrations for senior vice presidents and below to be capped at $50 per person, the report said. Licht has also cut costs in CNN’s reporting endeavors, opting to not send US-based staff to overseas events..

From the article:

Zaslav has said he wants to shift CNN from its more left-leaning, opinion-based, Trump-heavy reporting made famous under former CNN boss Jeff Zucker to more fact-based, middle-of-the-road journalism. That move has come as CNN’s ratings have been on a downward spiral since former President Donald Trump has left office.

Admitting they are opinion based, while many a liberal thinks they report news and facts, they just admitted they didn't.

It's surprising when your business model is built around 2 gay men and an eraserhead.

Zaslav is a great business executive and tomorrow will have a major news conference.

He's going to kill the release of 'Batman' despite being completed! The movie cost CNN about $90 million and he's taking the loss now. He said the movie is too woke. Also, the movie hasn't been received well in test runs. He just doesn't want to spend millions more in advertising, etc., to launch a dog.

So he killed the release. Strong exec do these things. He killed CNN + within hours of taking over. Plus, expect many more layoffs. Many more.

I agree that Zaslav will make Warner Bros. Discovery a profitable company, the owner of CNN. And it was Batgirl that he canned. I can imagine Zaslav coming into the company and saying you spent what, 90 mil on this dog? They announce earnings for the parent company tomorrow.

CNN used to be in all the airports and I remember seeing their feed once while filling up with gasoline.

I never understood the attraction to talking gas pumps. I find then annoying.
