Saratoga Sunday no fun day sloppy suspected

I wonder how many horses will scratch tomorrow and if all turf races switch to dirt? It sure sets up for a crappy day at the spaaaaaaaaaaaa.ww

to each his own, i love off the turf races

GMB@BP 07-21-2018 11:50 PM

Looks pretty inevitable. Going to hold off handicapping until the morning.

clicknow 07-24-2018 12:17 AM

I love wet tracks, but only at tracks I know well.

Add Mother Nature to the list of people out to destroy horse racing as we know it....

Valuist 07-24-2018 11:29 AM

If you are handicapping a card for the next day, unless it is currently raining hard, never assume the track will be sloppy and the turf races will be taken off. What happened on Sunday? They stayed on the grass.

Sunny and 90 all day today. Good betting card as well.

FlintAtTheFetlock 08-10-2018 02:38 PM

I was there WED 8/8 and was sweating it out with ominous skies and downpour at the start of the 6th. It lasted 20 minutes hard rain, they kept all the races on the TURF. I thanked the stars I dodged a bullet so booked another day for THUR perfect sunshine. I show up and all but 2 of the TURF races were OFF from the get go. I was staying 15 minutes away and never saw a drop of rain after 6:00pm the night before. SPA had to be the unluckiest of all radar dead hits while everyone else was dry. I did not understand it. No puddles in the parking lots, dry as a bone.

It was very poor racing with favorites of course, nearly impossible to make any money. I enjoyed the sunshine and the band playing in the background, but the worst wagering and deflation about the actual races in all my visits.

Oh Well, there are worst problems to have...

Time to go back to 4 weeks - 28 days.
Back then it was SARATOGA, today, it is Belmont North.
And 5 days a week.

Quantity over quantity.

Come on, you love complaining about this stuff (well, everything really).

Tom 08-12-2018 01:27 PM

How could anyone complaint about the STELLER card today?

PhantomOnTour 08-12-2018 01:39 PM

Worst card of the meet

Robert Fischer 08-12-2018 02:10 PM

Some of the races today were intentionally carded with only 6 horses(before scratches). It's garbage, and I guess you could call it incompetence, but that is too soft of language. This is intentional.

You either play early/ late pick-5s and the pick 6 (and even that is only if you know the dirt horses among the turf horses) and use the intentionally carded 'half-ass races' to pick the mispriced horse or the winner + occasionally a long shot, or you can dismiss a third of the card on a regular basis as a half-ass-race. Or you can nickle-and-dime along hoping that some former dirt horse will return form or some MTO horse will be a slight overlay.

Owners and the in-crowd trainers love the intentionally carded half-ass races with only 6 (and sometimes 5 before scratches) races. Plus, it makes the p5/p6 multis more affordable. Keeps those bettors active and guides DD, Pick-3 players over to that lane.

I haven't looked past the superficial sparse card today, so don't take this as a recommendation of value in today's p5s/p6... I don't know that.

Secondbest 08-12-2018 04:22 PM

Don't you just love these 4 horse fields.

Robert Fischer 08-12-2018 04:26 PM

Santa Rosa

where I end up when my laptop is lagging and I see a great last-second bet at Saratoga...

Robert Fischer 08-12-2018 04:54 PM

races 1-5 today

$0.50 Pick-4 (1,2,4,5,7,9,10,12,13/2/1/9) Paid $196.75 (4OF4)

$2 Pick-3 (2/1/9) Paid $685.00 (3OF3) ($171.25 on a 50c scale)

$0.50 Pick-5 (4/1,2,4,5,7,9,10,12,13/2/1/9) Paid $1,255.75 (5OF5)

So, even with an obvious single in the 2nd race, if you used all 5 runners in the 7f dirt taken off the turf-route for 2yo filly maidens 5th RACE, and otherwise bet logicals, you got paid if you played the pick-5. Not so much for the pick-4 or the pick-3.

These garbage cards are still sometimes interesting/playable if you are one of the important customers.

If you are a very sharp DD and Pk-3 player, you are kind of in nowhere land when it comes to the garbage cards that were either affected by weather or have races intentionally carded with 6 or 5 horses.

= Either get a 2nd job and play pick-5s like the real customers, or wait until actual competitive full fields come to you a few times a year (rare major stakes days and BC) and play those pick-3s, OR cut-back the other direction and just play Win wagers on the one race out of 5 that features a mispriced horse.

Wow ! This is the first year I can remember so many complaints , and rightfully so, about Saratoga racing. Shows how far down thoroughbred racing has sunken. In the words of our President..."Sad. " :(

Tom 08-12-2018 06:37 PM

I have seen enough.
Ellis Park for me the rest of the summer.
Adios Toga.

First two days were the highlights of the meet! Now one just has to wait for Keenland fall and KD, BC and in Jan Gulfstream.

dansan 08-12-2018 08:51 PM

ARF ARF

Dog days of summer

GMB@BP 08-12-2018 10:21 PM

Good new york racing is heavily dependent on turf race, when you have weather like this there is nothing to fall back on.

JustRalph 08-13-2018 12:47 AM

Could have sworn I saw some 12 horse fields at Gulfstream today?

Are they staying down south nowadays?

ZippyChippy423 08-13-2018 12:55 AM

Gulfstream Park is the best betting track in the country. Full
consistent fields and value prices every race. A nice mixture of long shots, mid level prices and favorites EVERY card.

Tom 08-13-2018 12:21 PM

I have been boycotting GP since the national boycott, ummm 10 years ago?
So long, I forget.

Really hard to support such a miserable excuse of a tack and its owner.

Full filed and MASSIVE coverage on TVG......but things have got to get a lot worse before I'll ever support that outfit.

Saratoga is six days a week. Only dark on Tuesday

Tom 08-14-2018 10:52 AM

That's my point - gop back to 5 days.
They can't fill races for 6.

Nothing special about Toga anymore.

ZippyChippy423 08-14-2018 01:02 PM

Nothing special about Saratoga? Oh i highly disagree. I get the point about smaller fields but there is nothing like being at Saratoga.

I think we are talking about the betting experience.

Tom 08-15-2018 11:09 AM

Toga today - Fast and Firm.
You don't see those two together a lot - like Superman and Clark Kent.

broker81 08-15-2018 11:24 AM

We are waiting picks about saratoga
