New to this

Hello All,

I'm new to the horse racing scene and I'd like to know what all the numbers mean in the columns to the right of the odds column. Attached are some pics.

The first picture is showing the $ 2 Exacta payouts for runner # 5 and each of the other horses. 5/1 pays $ 654 and 1/5 pays $ 610 at 13 minutes to post.
Considering the odds, those appear to be very very high payouts and will definitely change by post time. I'm sure you can figure the rest of the pictures.

Woodbine - 11 Minutes to Post in Race #5

From left to right:

Colored Numbers = Horse # (1 = Red, 2 = White, etc.)
Current Odds = Horse #1 is 5 to 1 right now.

First picture, continuing left to right:

Read the top of the column, it says 5 &. In the same row as the horse # on the left, it's telling you the payoff for a $2 Exacta bet.

Same thing with the "& 5" but opposite.

Example:

If the race finishes Horse #5 in 1st and Horse #1 in 2nd, the exacta will pay $654. If Horse #1 comes in 1st and Horse #5 comes in second, the exacta will pay $610.

You'll notice the 5 horse on the first screen has a "- -" in his row, because it's impossible to have him place 1st and 2nd in the race. Ergo, no exacta.

Thanks for the replies.
That's what I thought. However, in the first picture it shows 5&1 for $654, while 5&9 for $219. The odds for 1 is lower than 9, but yet the exactor pays more. Am I missing something here?

The exacta is a separate pool from the win pool, with payoffs calculated according to the proportion of wagers on the various combinations in the exacta pool, with no regard to how much is bet on each horse in the win pool. The relative amounts of exacta payoffs will thus not always correlate to the win odds of the respective horses. This can allow the bettor to detect inefficiencies and betting value in one pool or the other.

something does not seem right with those numbers at all... they are rediculously high all around... but all the odds are pretty high to. pretty rare to see those type of exact numbers
