The Red Wave

Democrat Mary Peltola defeats Sarah Palin in deep red Alaska. The first Democrat to hold the seat since 1973. RED WAVE??? Bwahahahahahaha.

this was no big deal, the newscasters are all calling this a big upset. Sarah Palin is nothing but an airhead and has always been a disgrace to Alaska and the rest of the country. my 14 pound dog would have beat her in an election as well. Murkowski will win her senate seat in a big way.

the real interesting congressional race will take place in Wyoming. Lynette Gray Bull lost this election with less than 30% of the vote in 2020. she has no chance in hell to win, she is an Arapahoe in Wyoming, but the polls have her doing much better this time around and she has no money to campaign with.

No meaning until midterms when the faceoff begins, perfect thread name to call up in November.

Why did I think I would find a Cliffy post about this. I was even diagnosed with brain fog from having Covid over lapping a concussion and have a referral for a neurologist. I guess Cliffy gloating was a no brainer. I was kind of shocked, but I did read where the first choice/second choice which was implemented for the first time worked against Palin. I agree she is an airhead,
but look what we have for a VP. Maybe this is a good warning and the seat will be up for re-election in November. It could also be Sarah Palin's 15 minutes of fame are over.

I've read about these preferential polls a while ago, and I'm not a fan. It seems to me to go against the one-man-one-vote principle.

Palin is an airhead and probably the main reason McCain went down.

The Republicans got 63% of the vote and a Dem wins?

Yeah, that’s fair

lamboguy 09-01-2022 12:59 PM

the Democrat won with 51.47% to the Republican 48.53%. in a runoff. this is a system that is supposed to guarantee a Republican victory in that state. in most cases, you would have had both Republicans in the runoff. Palin got backed by Trump and that's why she won so many Republican votes. then in the runoff, the Alaskan voters woke up to the deal and decided they rather have a Democrat than Palin.

to tell you the truth, i am shocked she only won by so little against this bitch.

Do you even understand how the voting works? The dimbasses in Alaska obviously don’t. Especially the Repubs. 15% of the Repubs that voted didn’t even list a 2nd choice.

Palin beat the other Repub and then lost 15% of the vote because they didn’t list another 2nd choice. This system was setup to help Dems and the dumbass Alaskan voters fell for the trick.

Give'em back to Canada. Or Russia. Or Denmark, I don't care. They're over-represented anyway :D

“This was a perfect storm of absurdity that produced an unrepresentative if still legally legitimate result. The problem here isn’t cheating — the result is legitimate. It’s the jury-rigged Alaska election system that’s absurd.

First off, Alaska has chosen to use all-in primaries instead of party primaries. Other states have adopted these as well, notably California, but they use those to narrow down the general election to a run-off between the top two vote-getters. Alaska puts the top four finishers on its general-election ballot, but requires a majority to win. Rather than use a subsequent runoff between the top two of the general election, Alaska requires voters to fill out second and third choices between the four candidates … and then goes through a ridiculous process to assign those ranked choices if one candidate doesn’t get 50% — which this system all but guarantees will happen. After several days of machinations, Alaska finally announces who won.“
