Winx Vs Enable

Who would win?

biggestal99 10-13-2017 09:00 AM

Older mare v 3 year old

Beholder-songbird

I rest my case.

da Mare beyond compare

RacingFan1992 10-13-2017 11:01 AM

This is gonna be a close call. They have both raced at up to or down to 11 furlongs. Hard to say. They both have the same running styles. Winx has to hustle more during her races since they are shorter but Enable has a farther distance to get into stride. I say they are pretty much equal.

As for the BS debate of older vs younger

Conquistador Cielo in the Met Mile
Holy Bull against older horses in the 1994 season
Citation in the Seminole Handicap against Armed 1947 Horse of the Year.

Older vs Younger means just as much as Brown vs Gray.

Beholder won by a ball hair...that said, picked Winx.

Beholder overcame a slow pace and a wide trip.

Songbird had everything her own way

Beholder stilled surged in the last stride to get up.

Again, won by a ball hair and had to go to photo. They were neck and neck down the stretch. SB ran the way she likes to run and Beholder ran the race she prefers or usually runs. She's a big mare that usually went wide on turns and usually sat 3-4 lengths off the pace. What was to overcome?

Plus probably not the best choice of mare to hold as example when talking older vs younger when Beholder was beat by a younger Stellar Wind twice last year.

Is Winx a mare that could race in that big one at Gulfstream? Or is that a different league?

What time does Winx Race (in terms of EST) in the Cox Plate since they are ahead of us approximately a half of a day. If anyone could be of assistance, I would appreciate it.

caper 10-27-2017 12:08 PM

She will race at 2am EST.

Vinnie 10-27-2017 12:13 PM

yes, they're probably far inferior to her!
but why would she bother?

I don't know. 7 million dollars. Make more then half in one race then she made in her entire career. Kind of an obvious answer.

Haha. 3 examples from the last 70 years closes the case.

I only posted this meaningless post because I was so inspired by the quoted meaningless post.

And, just for the record, as a self-declared solid handicapper, in the long run, I'll take the older horse if that's what I'm left with to break the tie.

Edit: If the 3 yo is proven against older, then age certainly is meaningless.

I am not convinced Winx is as good as she was 12 months ago. All horses have a peak period and I fear by the time she goes to Europe her peak period will be behind her.

That being said they might not beat her anyway.
