USC

What a lot to lose in a single game....Lost there shot for the national championships

No shit. I started nodding off after they opened a big early lead, but was coherent enough to think they could impress the Committee enough to jump TCU (assuming they win in their usual manner), beat a slower, typical B1G Michigan in the semis, and find themselves in the final. I guess not. Seeing the score this morning was a stunner. I guess the Holiday or Sun Bowls are the consolations....They're G-r-r-r-r-e-a-t-t-t!

As a UCLA fan when they were up 17-3 and forced a punt I changed the channel, but I kept checking back, when Utah tied the score I watched till the end. No matter the condition of Caleb Williams hamstring USC has a history of laying an egg in a low level bowl when they were aiming higher.
That is especially true playing a team that is excited to be there, who considered such a bowl an accomplishment. Take the opponent and the points.

I don't think you were the only one that nodded off. Caleb Williams popped a hamstring, but the defense also went in the sewer.

The LAST time I turned off a game TOO EARLY was the '92 Oils/ Bills game when Frank Reich, (substituting for Jim Kelly) made a truly amazing comeback.

Learned my lesson: almost happened again to today with TCU/Kansas State

Bills/Oilers, we could not turn that one off as we were in a Tijuana sportsbook.

When I replied to 46Z early Saturday morning I hadn't yet processed the implications of USC's loss for the Buckeyes. And now, here we are: 2 B1G's in the final four, and two losers of their last games. But after watching six hours of ESPN chatter I can't argue much with the pairings. I'm glad that if there is a re-match of The Game it will be in the finals and not on New Year's eve.

Their defense sucks all the time. They are so lucky they lost to Utah, if they met Georgia they would get humiliated by 46 like Oregon did. That USC-Tulane game expect the over/under to be 80.

They played good defense for a quarter and some change. I never have got what I think is an answer that makes sense to this question.

Why are the typical college football defenses so bad? I swear sometimes I think ESPN switched to blended scores up top when I am following college football on Saturday, a lot of them look like basketball scores. I see 64-58 and think they must have left out the OT after the score, nope that was at the end of regulation.

Any time I watch a rare low scoring game it is usually due to bad offense like they have a QB with the passing skills of a Navy QB that runs slower than Tom Brady.

43 years ago I played in a college football game that we won 7-5. it was by far the most physical nasty game I was in between HS and College. If a college game ended in that score today it would make the headline news.

Iowa had several of those games this season. :headbanger:

By golly you are correct! That easily got by me, as when score watching on Saturday's I mostly keep track of the top 25 and Pac-12 as I am a California transplant. Even though it seems there are getting to be more college football games on broadcast TV, the average fan wants to see basketball scores. I don't think I have seen a single game involving Iowa on TV here. They are probably on the show at last resort list.

Back to USC, looks like the oddsmakers got wise to their antics and they are a 2.5 point favorite against Tulane. Over/under 61.5 that is on Fan Duel.
