Maybe on the same subject...
Do this with less than one minute to post but still 15 seconds left to throw the bet together. Only recommended for dimes and quarters.
A 'trick' I learned is to look at the lowest odds horse [favorite]. Next look at the money on him to place. Note that.
Now look down the column at the monies on the horses to place.
Ideal is to find a horse with more to place than the favorite has. Bet that horse to win.
You can also bet the next highest amount to place but it should be at least close to the place amount for the favorite.
As mentioned in an earlier post, you can also put the horse identified above in the one hole in a super, the fave and one other 'contender' (mid range odds if you're not looking at PP's) in the two hole. Putting ONLY the favorite in the two hole is another option, cheaper but less payoff. Any horse with 'reasonable' odds goes in the three hole (depends on number running but generally in the less then 12 to 1 category) then everybody goes in the four hole.
I usually go 20 or even 50 cents since this typically generates only a dozen or so combinations.
One more.
Everybody in the one hole. The fave and the horse with high place money in the two and three (mid exacta?). Then two or three also rans. Good when you have a very low odds favorite. Doesn't hit often but so many slam the combos with the favorite in the one hole so hard that if anything happen to him and he stays in 2nd or third, this tend to pay well.
Again, maybe a bit off topic but a couple fun bets you can do based on odds alone.
