In case of the small chance a teller gets arrested will Monmouth put up the bail? Again my hunch is Drazin will be hiding under his desk.

Again I hope NJ gets it off the ground just don't see it in my (whatever that's worth) crystal ball.

I don't know if you read a post I made a couple of years ago but it's summer so we can do reruns. My friend called me up and asked if I wanted to catch the last couple of races at Monmouth. We get there a little before race ten out of twelve. Would you believe they were still charging for parking and when I said to the attendant "are you serious" her reply was "at least you will get a close spot". Then they had the "gall" to charge admission (I had passes not the point) instead of letting people in for free they would wager that money anyway. So what are they going to do with sports wagering? The same procedure where if somebody bets a ten timer the actually cost will be near a twelve timer. That's an awfully large vig for a small time gambler. What do you think this person will do the next time? This was under the Drazin watch do you think this is the smart way to try and entice people back to the track?

I am neutral here, the current group running MP is working on many new ideas to make the place more enjoyable including a concert venue and a new year round restaurant. The few bucks they charge for admission and parking goes to pay many of the workers. The fact they charged you after the majority of the card was run isn't something I would have done. Did you ever email the track and tell them this? They are pretty good with keeping people happy while figuring out how to generate revenue streams. PM me and I will send you a few passes for the clubhouse(not good on Haskell day).

Agree no one is going to be arrested as it will be a black eye for the Feds(they have a few already)this will be resolved one of two ways it gets the greenlight or they say hold on we want to really think this out!

If that's the scenario how did the NJ bill not become law? According to your logic Christie should have been in touch with the justice department before he signed it. What happens if the justice department says don't do it?

If it was the sixth race there would be no problem. The main thing was I never went back to the late card after that innocent. One would think they would even have a bus to take you there and back for the last three races.

I used to write them when the offices were at the Meadowlands and they were extremely receptive. I spoke to some people over a half hour and they were on the management team. They were great I even posted that here quite a few times.

I haven't done that with this team probably because I'm pigheaded about Drazin. I wrote a few letters supporting Monmouth to my elected representatives and wanted to throw up. The guy who ran for governor on the Republican side agreed with Chrisitie 100% even though he represents Monmouth county. It bothered me so much I switched to an "independent" from Republican. This is what I mean by people being out of touch in all forms of representation.

I'm not sure if it was you (think so) that I sent correspondence about the proposed Green Brook facility from their management. For some strange reason I was on their mailing list and saw some private stuff. If it wasn't you I can send it if your interested. I'm very involved when it comes to matters that are of "importance" to me and write plenty of letters. This is why I try to write with some form of "passion" so the point gets across. I just don't disagree with someone to "troll" them, that's not my bag.

Thanks for the passes I'll take you up on it so I can bring a few people. My friend bought me a ticket for Haskell day that was nice of him considering my back problems may make it a tough go. If we're both there maybe we can say "hello"

Have you ever randomly asked people there is they would drive to make a sports wager? Next time I'm there I'm going to do that people call me a "character" a nickname I actually like. Monmouth is so far out of the way (especially if you don't know the shortcut) I really can't see it being successful. The Meadowlands has a better chance because it's off route 3 and the turnpike a guy coming home fron work who doesn't have a bookie might consider it.

I would bet that once the SW is approved and operating William Hill would like nothing more than the phone bets to be a huge part of the action. Until it is up and runnng smoothly the old school betting style will be in affect, walk up to the track make a sports wager pay the piper get your ticket and enjoy the game! You bring up MP vs the Meadowlands, there really isn't any love at all between the current individuals running each venue, in fact Jeff Gural has to approve the sites for the new OTW's and they go through his real estate company, that is a big problem in itself. There is a letter that was sent to Mr Gural it is avaialble on the MP website under horseman, you can read how the two groups waste a lot of time bickering instead of expanding the product to new markets. I sent your passes out, enjoy the races. MP is still a great place to visit and its charm will never be diminished.

If they can take phone or online bets that's an entirely different story. Purses would go sky high and the MP takeover would be an impressive success for private enterprise. Even if they capture just the 10%-20% that doesn't know a bookmaker its a big number. This is 2014 this generation wants things done as quickly as possible. Wasting an hours drive is not an option for them if they can use their smartphone.

Just what they would take in from the super bowl would be at least eight figures. Also you would be surprised what type of games some wiseguys bet on. I'm being serious that over the last decade I didn't even hear of at least five or more colleges where there was a line. The negative is like I stated before sometimes seconds are important to them let alone minutes. I'll never forget what one wiseguy said after beating a bookie (long story) hitting the middle on the same game, same two teams, same bookie. "Your guys have to be smarter".

I know a poster here thinks William Hill is the smartest bookie on the planet, but I would take the guy I'm taking about in the above paragraph 365 out of 365 days a year.

Phone betting or online betting ain't going to ever happen, that is a sure fire guarantee.

I'm stating the obvious William Hill would love to have it for the betting public, eventually!

Ever is a long time, for instance if someone told me 20 years ago that same-sex marriage would happen in jersey, I would have said no. But lookie now. The mores of society change.
Anti-gambling are just like any other laws, subject to the whims of society.

Okay, ever is a long time, lets say 50 years instead.

Define hypocrisy....very easy...here:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/marcedel...-in-43-states/

The NFL is saying it's ok to WIN MONEY using NFL players and based on their perfomances in their games, but it's not ok to place a bet. I don't know what else to say. I believe they are trying to say that because fantasy football is more a game of skill than chance, it's ok to bet on.....oops...i mean.....pay an entry fee and hope to win money. I guess betting is all chance and no skill. They are ridiculous!!!!

The state also shelled out over $260m in concessions so the Revel could open and operate, that money could have gone elsewhere but Gov C followed his desire to keep Atlantic City afloat and look what happened to the Revel! The sports wagering bill will be signed and NJ will have it.

Gov. Chris Christie has vetoed a bill Monmouth Park officials hoped would spur the legalization of sports betting in New Jersey.
Bill S-2250 sponsored by Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, and Assemblyman Ronald Dancer, R-Ocean, would have partially repealed prohibitions against sports wagering at racetracks and casinos in the state. The logic had racetrack and casino operators then opening sports books that could take bets without federal interference.
Christie attached comments to the bill in which he said he is “open to exploring legally sound ways to let the state’s casinos and racetracks offer sports wagering.’’
He called the pending legislation “a novel attempt to circumvent the Third Circuit court’s ruling’’ that federal law prevented implementation of New Jersey’s 2012 law authorizing sports wagering.
“Ignoring federal law, rather than working to reform federal standards, is counter to our democratic traditions and inconsistent with the Constitutional values I have sworn to defend and protect,’’ he said.
The veto marks a dead end to several years of efforts on sports betting, and could threaten Monmouth Park’s sponsorship deal with United Kingdom bookmaker William Hill.
Track officials say William Hill has given Monmouth Park $1 million during the past two years for sponsorship of the Haskell Invitational. Part of the deal includes building out and operating a Las Vegas-style sports book in exchange for 50 percent of the profits from it upon legalization of sports betting.

Quote:

“While I do not agree with the Circuit Court’s decision, I do believe that the rule of law is sacrosanct, binding on all Americans,” (Christie) wrote. “That duty adheres with special solemnity to those elected officials privileged to swear and oath to uphold the laws in our nation.”
Translation: "Sheldon Adelson told me I better veto this, or else go without the money he showers on GOP presidential candidates. Forget what I said in 2012. Drop dead, New Jersey."

He's got no shot of winning the presidency in 2016. He's going to be indicted for Bridgegate or at minimum it'll be hanging over him. NJ just lost it's best chance at sports betting because of Christie's obeisance to GOP funders.

Override him.

Bluto Blutarsky 08-09-2014 08:48 AM

bks-

Good post. This all has to do with Christie's presidential aspirations. He doesn't want to piss off Sheldon.
Override Christie. Trouble is the NJ state Republican leaders who live near Monmouth Park like Joe Kyrillos, Jennifer Beck, Declan O'Scanlan, Sean Kean, Bob Singer don't the courage to override Christie.
