New Triple Crown
 

Stronach has unveiled a three race series starting with the Preakness, then the California Crown (formerly Awesome again) and the 2025 Pegasus. Any horse that wins all three gets a five million dollar bonus. I like the idea but wonder how many will try for it. Maybe they made the series so Nysos can sweep it.

The whole series of races included in this in which purses are being jacked and more than doubled doesn't seem to make much sense.

Made for Nysos? You figure he will fill up the Grandstand if he opts to stay at SA instead of the PA Derby? He would likely run in the Pegasus anyway if he's sound.

Not sure what it accomplishes other than maybe getting the Preakness winner to the Awesome Again. It's a series. Good for them. I think there should be more series of races grouped together. It's not a new TC however.

They should flip the Awesome again and the Santa Anita Handicap and try to restore some prominence to that race. It is dead in the water in the current time slot.

It seems to me the 5 million would be better spent helping claiming and other small time owners and trainers make ends meet so they don’t drop out of the game altogether. But people have been complaining that the Preakness is slowly losing prominence because of the spacing. At least now there’s a bit of an added incentive to run in the race that can’t hurt and may help a little.
