Getting past performance data for US racing

In the UK I subscribe to a system called proform. This is software you install on your PC. It comes packaged with 17(!) years worth of detailed past performance data for all races in the UK and Ireland. Each day you can click on an update button and it will keep its database up to date. Another important feature for me is that it can export data to csv files. I use this feature so that I can easily import the data into my own software.

So my question is this: is there anything like this that covers racing in the US? And if not, what's the nearest thing to it... as a last resort I do have the ability to scrape data from websites but that's tricky and time consuming.

Thanks,

Thanks,

There is nothing like that available here that comes with that kind of data, nothing even close. You have to pay for old data same as new. It is possible to work out deals with some of the providers to buy in bulk, but it isn't cheap.

problem for data providers is you are going to pay a premium for bulk data because they know likely people would buy and bail if they just gave it away with a new subscription.

Hmmm... OK, so my second choice is getting data from a website, either free or subscription. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Cheers,

Thanks,

It is not only the data provision that remains in the Stone Age here in US but more importantly the same applies for the betting choices that are limited to mutual pools only; considering such a hostile betting landscape, what is that attracts your interest to American racing?

"mutual pools"! this is all news to me! I may need to reconsider!
Is it actually the law that only mutual pools is allowed or is that just what is popular?
