So if I was a betting man, and I am, this case will be heard before a panel of three judges in 2015, aka the Third Circuit, once they render a decision you can then say you were right or wrong. Until then enjoy the holidays!

Third circuit court of appeals case number for new jersey sports betting case is 14-4546.

The real question is why it took them so long.

Nice piece from Steve Edelson in the Asbury Park Press talking about the hypocrisy of the whole situation:

Boo ho, boo ho. What the matter, the horsemen are letting a form of gambling exist with them getting a cut. Somebody slipped somewhere.

It's not even about the horsemen, really. What kind of an excuse do you have for the sports leagues thinking fantasy leagues for money are OK, but sports betting isn't (except in two states, where apparently it is)?

Sports betting hearing scheduled for 3/17:

I'm still waiting for a response to my question, btw: how is fantasy sports for money OK, but sports betting not?

biggestal99 01-21-2015 05:14 PM

That was quick.

The law supposedly is betting on an outcome of a sporting event is not ok, betting on the performance of the individual athletes in the game (not tied to the result) is ok.

LoBiondo's bill has a better chance and I really don't see why any reasonable state treasurer wouldn't push for it. The same money is being bet now illegally all over the country. Why shouldn't a state want to cash in on how long it will take to sing the national anthem.

There is ZERO chance these bills get to the house floor, and you can quote me.

It is evident that the professsional sports leagues would like to strike a deal to allow wagering on their events. It's just a matter of time before it is legal in NJ.

On these exact bills as stated I'm in agreement with you. But now the positioning and jockeying starts to see how it could be written. Promises to help one representative get a bill moved along in support for the gambling one out of committee could be made. After that it will probably die but now it will be mentioned time and time again.

Real legitimate polling will take place and the pro gambling forces hope it's in and stays positive. Other form of momentum will be looked upon to gain support.

After that I really have no idea what will happen. A favorable federal court ruling could be a huge positive and what NJ and other states need. A negative one and it could be a huge momentum changer in reverse.

Let me throw in only Adam Silver is supporting this every other league is against it. But if they can get revenue that compares to naming a stadium lots of owners will jump on board. The NBA stand to gain the most out of this because the wagering platform for games is fairly easy to understand. Not so much for the NHL and MLB with moneylines and other props that will be offered.

My two cents.
