Truth is [Indeed] Stranger than Fiction

San Francisco police seek approval to use robots to deploy lethal force

Stay tuned, folks. RoboCops coming soon to a neighborhood very near you. :coffee:

I could not image that thing being useful unless you don't care about collateral damage. The top speed of one of those robots is casual walking speed and the reaction time of the servos is much slower than a humans.
If sent into combat it is going to lose unless it can blow itself up or will explode when shot at. If a human is controlling it, it's reaction time is human reaction time plus time for the signal to go from radio receiver, through the motherboard, servo unit, then servo motor action.

I hope someone with knowledge of robotics is consulted before taxpayer money is wasted.

it would not be helpful in hostage situations but would be in barricade situations

The problem is this technology will get better and better and as governments become more authoritarian we the people become more and more vulnerable.

Shirely, you're not going to bank on that happening, right?

That was hilarious. I wonder how many adults with at least average intelligence would not think that is fake? I have no idea how someone produced that, it looks very realistic. My technical knowledge of motion control tells me it is fake. Also no one would trust a robot with live ammo in those situations.

It is not fake. Check out Boston Robotics website.
