Just more personal experience, assuming small crabs and crawdads would be similar. I forgot exactly where it was but when I lived in San Clemente I would take the next door neighbor boys to fish for crawdads, what was awesome is they would hustle to compete who would get the most with no desire to eat them. They are damn good, but labor intensive. They stop moving in the pot long before the water boils.

you could probably do something similar with dry ice
