Whatever happened to Arabian races?

I seem to remember Delaware Park would have one race a card with an Arabian Race. Not that I was ever a fan just curious if they still race these horses.

I've seen one or two at DEL in the last year. Usually when someone links to the chart in a thread and asks, "what kind of race is this!?"

PaceAdvantage 09-18-2020 09:27 PM

They used to have one Arabian race a day at Delaware...they still run them, but nowhere near as often...

davew 09-18-2020 09:54 PM

I remember seeing them at Ferndale at the Humboldt county fair.

wisconsin 09-18-2020 10:16 PM

Los Alamitos used to run them, often at 6f, the only 2 turn races the QH meet would card.

Psychotic Parakeet 09-19-2020 02:21 AM

They ran some at Golden Gate Fields last month. I remember seeing a couple of them at Santa Rosa about two years ago.

As far as I know, all the fairs were cancelled. That was a major bummer for me. I like betting those fairs, especially mules. I have a trip and figure for every mule that's run over the last 5-6 years. :D

The Fresno fair is still racing next month so you should be able to get some action in.

Race #9 tomorrow Sept. 21 at Delaware is likely an Arabian Race.
It doesn't say so in the conditions, but the names of all of the entries are in
capital letters. That usually means Arabian Horses.

It says (Arabian) right before the ALLOWANCE designation.

Thanks, they should make that sparkly, so that dimwits like me could find it.

Arabian races at Lone Star tonight

jimmy m 09-21-2020 10:59 AM

Was going to post the race at Lone Star.So instead remember the Appaloosa's at Fairplex during the La County Fair.I loved those races.

Aren't they smaller and slower, more suited for distance?
When I was a kid and was with my folks overseas we went to races that were only Arabian horses. Many races were 2 miles. They said they couldn't use starting gates because of their temperament, so they had them gather behind a rope between 2 poles. When the rope was jerked up the horses took off.
This was late 60's, I'm sure there's been advancements.

Definitely yes on the smaller and slower. Delaware usually runs Arabian races at the common thoroughbred distances, 6 furlongs and a mile.
