class changes

With the proliferation in the number of classes it is more difficult for me to determine what is a class change. In the 2nd a Aqu sat. the 3 horse is in a clm35 nw3 his last race was a alw40000s. Is the a class drop? We clm4000nw1,clm4000nw2 ect really how much of a class change is that? I wish we would go back to clm4000,clm4250,clm4500 and why did we go away from that classification?

It's a big class drop.

Up in conditions are your major steps, MDN, nw2, mw3, nw4. Then the type of race, allowance, starter, claiming.

it is a class drop but not that drastic as the alw40000 is for horses who may have just won a maiden claimer to be eligible.

That last race was for horses that have started for a claiming price of $50,000 or less, and have never won an allowance race. Winners of multiple claiming races would be eligible. This type of race can be very cheap or very good and you can find some very good bets in them. Last year, I got something like 7-1 on a horse in one of these that had won 11 race running against a file of maiden claimer winners.

In this 12/3 race, 5 of the 12 had won 2, 3, or 4 races previously. Interestingly, two horses who had won twice already won and placed at 19-1 and 15-1.

Also the 3's alw race was a restricted race to state bred's. This is a lower class race than alw40000. If I remember correctly Beyer's used to add 2/5 of a sec to a state bred vs open when he did his speed figures. In California back in the 80's the claiming races went up in $5000 increment c10000,cl15000 ect. I used to add 2/5 of sec to a horse's time moving up i increment and the reverse moving down. This work very well for me then,but didn't have nw 1 nw 2 in claiming race. They only used nw in allowance races Things were a lot easier at that time.
