Should background checks be required prior to owning a gun?

I think this is an interesting question as do others.

FYI voting is usually considered a privilege and not a "right".

Check this weeks releases from your state prison. Ask yourself if you would want some or all of them to be able to own a firearm.

The real question is do you believe background checks be expanded?

Expanded to where? A questionable text? or possible mental illness? Define the limits to the expansion and I will give you a answer.

Any of the above. Mental illness disclosures would be a violation the right to privacy too. A questionable text would violate Due Process. In addition to eroding the "right" to own and possess a firearm.

These types of checks are Constitutional as they do not violate Due Process or privacy laws.

So, make a point other than that.

You’re kidding right? You think they can’t get a gun because they cannot pass a background check?

Nothing stops the criminals from getting guns.

I voted for gun ownership only.
I do support having to show proof of who you are in order to vote - that is not a violation of my right. If I am a citizen and legally allowed to vote, I have no problem proving who I am.

But background checks will never solve the problem.
What is the number of NRA members involved in mass shootings?
I think we need a much more comprehensive approach, not just one that feels good, which is mostly what liberal strive for.

I understand this, but it's not the point. Where there is a will, there is a way. You, I, or anyone will not be able to stop someone from obtaining a gun, if they want one. It does not matter how many restrictions you put out there. Same thing with drugs. Pot, is illegal in my state. Do you think think that means it is hard to get? And I live in a town with less than 1500 people in it. Laws matter to me, not to criminals.
