im an old man and love most music. somehow I skipped over Freddie mercury and queen. with the new movie, I couldn't help but become aware of them and although Freddie is not my cup of tea, I cannot deny his performance at Live Aid in 1985 may have been the greatest of all time. I knew of Bohemian Rhapsody but didn't realize he did We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Under Pressure, and many more.

heres an excerpt from the Live Aid performance and the immense crowd at wembly in London. they also had 90,000 in Philadelphia responding in the same manner. any comments as to freddys showmanship and the great music that he and queen gave us ?

Queen is an icon band.
I came of age with Queen 8 Tracks and Schlitz 6-packs.

Performers got to perform. Live music atmospheres are the best. My daughter is a huge Queen and Freddie Mercury fan. i may go along to see Bohemian Rhapsody with her and granddaughter.

I'm not trying to be funny, but I always wondered why Freddie Mercury didn't get his teeth fixed.

There are four or five Queen songs I really like. They seemed like a really precise group.

ive read quite a bit about him. his overbite was a result of 4 extra teeth he had (2 on each side) in the back of his mouth. he had tremendous vocal range and he feared that manipulating the structure of his natural alignment of teeth could endanger his singing voice, from changing his pallet and/or vocal chords

It was indeed a spectacular performance, but a young band by the name of U2 also made its mark on that day.

Indeed , they made their mark in the US that day but in the U.K. they had scored three Top 10 singles and two chart-topping albums. U2 had released 4 albums prior to 1985.

Interesting, your comment made me look up that day at LIve Aid and a article stated that Freddie Mercury flirted with Bono, who was previously unaware that the Queen singer was gay. U2 was introduced for their set by Jack Nicholson of all people.

You are correct that Live Aid made U2's career.

Well, all I can say about that is that Freddie must have been turned on by mulletts. :headbanger::lol:

Brian May is a genius. Saw them in concert in Cincy, I’m guessing in 79?

I remember being disappointed because they were unable to re-create the music from the albums.

Freddie Mercury was a gift... What a phenomenal talent. If only I or so many others I am sure could have known that he would he would be overcome by illness so swiftly, I would have made every effort possible to ensure that I would have gotten to see he and Queen perform. A true force of nature in terms of his singing talent. May he Rest In Peace... :)

My friends and I went to see Mott The Hoople in Manhattan years ago and Queen was the opening act. We had never heard them, but we all thought that they had a chance to be a big band, even though they had not written any of their best songs yet. Freddie was a great performer and they were a solid rock band.

I saw Queen twice live. Great shows. The movie is really getting panned. I went anyways and liked it. Freddy was quite the performer.

As a musician (and old man) I was lucky enough to hang around people who broadened each other's musical horizons. Our group was listening to Queen, UFO, Kansas, Scorpions, etc. before most people knew the band names. IMO, Queen's best album is Sheer Heart Attack, with the only "popular" song on it being Killer Queen. Don't ignore any of their first three releases as there is really good stuff on them that you wouldn't hear on the airwaves back in the day.
