One of my childhood/teen years heroes.

Lifelong Reds fan myself & this news breaks my heart.
My hero was always George Foster, but Morgan and Concepcion were right behind.
Great all around ball player and a deserving Hall Of Famer.
Loved his unique batting stance pumping that left elbow.

RIP Joe :(

Saw him play as an Astro often. Saw him clear the centerfield fence at the dome off Sandy Koufax for Houston's only run. Was a Sunday afternoon with 50,000+ in attendance, and a record crowd for many years. One of the greatest 2nd baseman to ever play.
RIP...tough guy!!

Concepcion should be in the Hall.

Good guy, one of the very best 2B of all time, if not the best
RIP

There are Hall of Famers and then there are inner sanctum Hall of Famers . . . Mr. Morgan is most assuredly in that inner sanctum of HOF'ers . . . easily the greatest 2nd baseman of the modern era and right there with Rogers Hornsby, Eddie Collins and Nap Lajoie from the early 1900's. Morgan also played 2nd base almost right to the end of his lengthy career, whereas others like Rod Carew, for example, were moved to keep their bat in line up but their body out of harms way in the field, but not Morgan, he held down 2nd base almost right to the end. Pretty absurd that 81 sports writers left him off their HOF ballots. RIP Little Joe.

BTW, it's been a tough year for losing such inner sanctum guys like Morgan, Whitey Ford, Gibby and Tom Terrific.

A very classy guy I thought. Enjoyed his commentary on Sunday night baseball. Man the Big Red Machine. I am getting old.

RIP Joe

Use to love going to see The Big Red Machine. Like Joe Morgan as a player and a announcer.

Joe Morgan was a fine player and competitor in both defensive and offensive categories. He was a class act both on and off the field and I too enjoyed his commentary after he retired. RIP.

Being a Pirate's fan in the early and mid '70s, Morgan and the BRM were a greatly hated menace. The Reds of that period were a great team with an enormously overpowering batting lineup with a little 2nd baseman in the 3rd spot in the batting order. That says enough about Morgan's spot on that team as anything else.

One of the first true "right" opinions I had in sports was calling Foster to become a major star early in the 1975 season. Too bad I couldn't profit from it.
