Seriously. This state no longer even remotely represents me or many others.


Every ballot initiative passed, including:

Gay marriage is now permitted

In state tuition at the Univ. of Maryland and it's satellites for illegals

Another casino near DC and a future one in the city while two of the three existing casinos are losing money. The area where the downtown casino is to be built will turn into a nightmare of criminal activity.

Gerrymandering a district in Western Md. to defeat one of two Republican representatives in DC. The previous district was chopped to hell.

The governor proclaimed yesterday that he is pushing to make the referendum process even tougher than it already is to keep issues like the above from making their way onto the ballot.

Recently, the state, by mandate, raised all alcohol sales to be taxed at a rate of 9%. This is an increase of 3% over the sales tax of 6%.

A 2 year car registration costs $180

Toll road fees up 100 %

State property tax raised even while home values declined.

The only thing that compels me to stay is the fact that my 90 year old mom is still with us. If she passes on before me, I have some serious thinking to do.

Any serious suggestions on affordable, conservative, relatively safe areas to relocate ?

Blue states are out.

We would welcome you and you Mom, here in Middle Tennessee. We are both Conservative, and relative inexpensive to live, compared to most other places. :ThmbUp:

Montana
North and South Dakota

Less people less infrastructure.

Spent a lot time in South Dakota this past August looking at retirement property and came away very impressed.
The people were kind, open and very American - a clean, conservative state, without the BS we encountered in Washington State.
My wife and I are planning a return trip in the spring to make a final decision as to which part of the state we want to turn our whole attention 2 (Badlands to Wall City)

What's winter like there?

I have spent a lot of time in Tennessee (mainly Johnson City) and i second the notion of Dartman.

Move to SEC country CJD ! We will make a serious college football fan out of you...a Saturday in Knoxville is a fantastic place to be.

Winter - we asked the same question to several of the brokers we spoke to in different parts of the state.
The general answer was "winter is winter....lol" -
...................but according to the locals (not the brokers) the roads are very well maintained.
Actually, driving the freeway system was a treat - excellent throughout that whole state. Probably due to a large number of troopers :rolleyes:

Wyoming or Idaho, both very Red State. If you prefer a larger city, Boise has much to recommend it, and the winters are probably milder than Maryland's.

'Dad', I wish I could offer up Pennsylvania as a suggestion for you but too many fat slobs from New Jersey, armed with their equally fat and protected NJ state pensions, have moved en masse to my beloved and bucolic Bucks County these past 20 years or so.

These very annoying people never ever admit that the liberal policies of the Democrat Party caused them to run out of there in the first place. Of course, these idiots also never learn and still vote Democratic today.

So guess what? Pennsylvania is now a blue (and soon to be hopeless) Keystone state.

I believe a similar scenario is playing out in Virginia as well from what I could imagine, limiting that option as well.

Oklahoma seems to meet all your requests, but I suspect you already know this. Low cost of living, bight red (all statewide offices, congressmen, senators, every county voted red in the last 2 presidential elections), low taxation.

I'm with BlueShoe, well at least for the summer months. :)

Eventually, it won't matter. As the centralized national government grows, passes more laws and regulations and seizes more power unto itself, all states will have to tow the line...or else. The sovereignty of the individual states is already more wishful thinking than reality.

Boxcar

Boseman area of Montana is nice, easy to fall in love with. Winters are sometime difficult because of the mountain ranges and blowing snow. It takes some adjustment and you will definitely want a 4 wheel drive.

South Dakota is nice and open but I prefered the Eastern side of it

Idaho is really nice. You should really wait till spring and drive from Boseman thru Idaho and down to Denver. DO NOT FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!!

I liked Colorado. There is much to do and plenty of parks and etc and it was reasonable for rents and etc. People were great!

Take some notes and check out prices and give yourself at least 3 weeks to travel. When I was out there we saw some Mountain sheep and a bear. It was fantastic.

DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA, LENSES AND A BUNCH OF DISKS!!!
