I had the trifecta... To all three of those horses and their connections I wish the best for the future. Looks as if Street Sense has a good chanace for the Triple Crown. The Preakness being shorter and tighter turns could be the only race he is succeptible.

i'd say that if he gets the preakness, you can put the TC in a bag... the Belmont is probalby the best stuited for Street Sense, and no one is going to want to send their horses to the Belmont if he won the first two legs anyway

that's why I didnt' lik him to win.. becuase the odds of having traffic were too much.

shoot, pletcher should have had two of his horses just "hey, i want you to shoot to the lead on the rail, and just die and block SS"...

If he gets stopped once, he probably doesn't win.

Phenomenal turn of events.

I heard Victor Espinoza say in an interview once,

"tired horses always move away from the rail on the turn"

I think he also said that the opposite was true on the turf courses. He said that on turf they are usually already trying to save ground and when they quit in the stretch they just hug the rail. I guess the 10f on dirt races like the Derby, would play to his theory. That or Calvin used his magic wand to move them over. :lol:

It looked to me like like Street Sense was politely needling his way through. Horses that are ready to run big tend not to have difficulty doing that. A ton of credit has to go to Calvin Borel. That's gotta be one of the all time great rides. Jerry Bailey look out!

But the lions share of kudos goes to Nafzger. Street was prepared brilliantly. So much for needing three preps, and the huge barrier - the Juvenile Jinx came crashing down. This is a magnificent day for racing, and we now have an incredibly interesting triple crown race. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

He did go around Storm In May on the backstretch.

Another impressive ride from Calvin rail-wise was on Fiery Pursuit Friday. There were two front-runners in the race and his had the outside post, but he flew out of the gate and snatched the rail from Velazquez, then had just enough left to hang on.

going around a horse is not traffic, that's horse racing. Traffic is what Curlin was in going into the backstretch (not that it was an excuse)

if you told me all I had to do to get from last to first is PASS 1 horse in the strech.. in a 20 horse field?

I heard an interview with Calvin and he said the rail opened because the horses were getting tired and moved off the rail. He said it matter of
factly like thats a common occurance. ???

Street Sense
 

My heartfelt congratulations go out to the entire team of Street Sense, and I agree that it was a sensational ride by Calvin "Borail". He is truly a gentleman, and my hat also goes off to Larry Jones, who definitely had Hard Spun ready to run as well......:)
