I agree, that not getting the horse any help was wrong, but most trainers would have just put the horse down, instead of letting it survive in that condition. At least the trainer reached out to try to get help for animal. In around about way, he cared for the horse, because he didn’t want to put it down, but at the same time, probably didn’t have the money to save the horse with proper care.

Interesting not a word from Pace Advantage.

What problem?

jay68802 12-09-2017 12:37 AM

Pennsylvania Racing:

1. Unable to control drugs
2. Can't accurately report workouts
3. Allow a horse that tested positive for drugs to still get credit for a win
4. Can't get a photo finish right
5. Want casino money and a high takeout
6. Now this

WAKE UP!

Do you really think that ANYONE that cares about this sport, thinks this is the way the industry as a whole, wants to be seen?

A $500.00 dollar fine? I'm a gambler in this business. I gave half of that dollar amount to help the people in California. Make this as@Ho#& pay for this poor animal, and get him OUT of this business.

The reason this has happened is simple, money, greed, and that attitude is what is killing this sport.

I will never again give you my money. I hope I am not the only one.

You have set a new, low standard for this sport.

Congratulations.

There's not a single damn person on the backstretches I know that wouldn't have quietly and willingly taken this horse from him to give it proper care.

Absolutely!!

Thank you for posting that.

Wanted to add that the picture shows a typical thin standing bandage on the good leg.
What the horse needs is a much thicker support bandage wrapped with an ace bandage on the good leg to prevent the horse from foundering in his left front from too much weight.

Any trainer knows that.

Good lord what a pos this guy is.

Then close your business, or get a 2nd part time job cleaning toilets, whatever you have to do.

Live animals are a whole different business than widgets.

Maybe he hasn't been online since this topic was posted? His last post was early yesterday afternoon urging posters to make donations to help the horses impacted by the California fires. I disagree with him all the time (see off-topic), but your post is totally unfair.

It is no wonder why racing suffers from an image problem. Lowering takeout will surely not correct that.

Thanks Mike. Sometimes, I don't get on every day...sometimes I get on just to read stuff but don't even log in so I don't bother replying.

Sometimes, a topic (like this one), is just so self-explanatory, nothing else needs to be said.

What should I do? Join the chorus of people who have said the same thing already? Why?

To make PP feel better about me?

I predict an epic flameout post about me from PP one day...it's so predictable.

And people sometimes question me as to why I just don't immediately kick the obvious trolls and retreads. It's not because I don't recognize them for exactly what they are. Even I can learn a thing or two after almost two decades of doing this...

No, I don't kick them because I actually ENJOY their inevitable epic flameout posts, which they think will "get me." I'm weird like that.

as a central Pennsylvania resident and horseplayer I am (once again) deeply troubled by the actions (or lack thereof) of our stewards, commission, and racetrack.

the most disturbing thing to me however is that Mario rodriguez..... the one horseman who far more often than not greeted mere gamblers like myself with a friendly wave and a smile..... was named as the guilty party here. bud (?) the man who helped in the stable was always polite as well. idk?

Just to state something positive in light of the horror of this. Papp's husband Monti Sims is a buddy of mine. We became friends when he was training in MN back in the 80's. I sent a nice filly of mine, a home bred of ours, with him to Laurel and Pimlico one winter. This is one hell of a good trainer. Nobody takes better care of animals of any kind. Just a great guy.

we keep on blaming the state, but that is the wrong people to blame. all they do is collect paychecks and taxes and are completely useless. i blame the horsemen for this one. they know this guy abuses animals, they should all just refuse to race horses when he enters. then the guy is out of business and you don't need to suspend him. but no, the horsemen are now 2 different types, the haves and the have nots. the haves want the have nots to keep entering horses into the races that they scoop up all the purse money while the have nots get the crumbs if any are left over.

the game is a total bore these days.
