Joel Rosario Santa Anita longshot jockey

Joel Rosario brings in Peace Pledge, an 82-1 longshot, yesterday to knock some unlucky person out of a $173k pick six payoff. Now today Joel brings in a 40-1 shot Military Bride in the third race at Santa Anita.

The pick six will pay big today with the other longshots winning in races 4 to 9.

This could be a guy you love or a guy you love to hate.

Rosario had a $124 winner at SA last Oct as well.

From Oct thru yesterday in dirt sprints 18/175 10%W 1.55 ROI - which goes way up after todays bomb.

Dirt routes 7/48 14%W 1.34 ROI - highest price winner only $28.60.

On Turf 3/56 5%W .49 ROI.

Rosario longshots

Yes I do recall that Rosario won on October 6th,7 on a maiden claimer called Smokey Route for trainer Antonio Lopez.

And last summer on July 22,7 he rode Echezeaux to pay $133. to win for trainer John Meairs in a 1 1/16 optional claimer race.

He is a jockey to watch for good payoffs!

I am betting him from now one, at least $5.00 10-1 and over.

Rosales the SA trainer is good also for longshots also

Richard Rosales is great for longshots also. He is a trainer at Santa Anita. He brought in Razi's Star at a $58.80 payoff on feb 28,7 and on Nov 9,7 He brought in a nice $133.60 winner H.E.'s Girl

Both longshots were in maiden 25k races. So if you want to cash longshots at Santa Anita remember Rosales and Rosario for longshots!

FYI...I posted this on Jan. 8...more than a month ago

Can you name the four U.S. jockeys who are doing the following:

1) Ridden more the 1,000 mounts in the last three years.

2) Have a solid winning percentage of 15% or more.

3) The average odds of all of their 1,000 + mounts go off at 10/1 or higher, so they are not getting the cream of the crop.

4) Are showing a flat-bet profit betting even with this large sample size.

I'll come back in a day or two with my answers, but there are probably so many sharpies on this board it won't be necessary.

JOEL ROSARIO.....equally effective in sprints, routes, turf. Has 45% ITM percentage...very strong considering his mounts go off at average odds of 16/1. Great use underneath in the exactas and tris. Shows 6% flat-bet profit with all mounts.

MIGUEL PEREZ.....has considerably better stats on dirt (sprints /routes) than on turf. Doesn't ride that many on turf (only 97 turf mounts in last three years) and wins only 9% on turf. Whopping 20% flat-bet profit with all mounts, but most of that primarily in sprint races. Good 44% ITM percentage considering horses he rides go off at average odds of 14/1. Another to consider using in exactas and trifectas.

KERWIN CLARK.....solid with sprints but slightly better with routers. Rarely rides any turf horses (19 turf mounts, 1 win in last three years). Shows a fat 21% flat-bet profit with all mounts. In the money with 41% at average odds per mount of 11/1, lower than Rosario or Perez.

HUBER VILLA-GOMEZ.....very underrated rider. Rides far and away more horses that the other three (double the number of Clark and Perez), yet to his real credit still shows a 5% profit with all mounts with no handicapping whatsoever. A comparison would be how tough it is for a baseball players to hit for high average with 500 at bats compared to another player with only 250. Equally effective in sprints, routes and turf and maintains a 41% ITM percentage at average odds of 12/1 per mount.

UPDATE: Joel Rosario (So. Calif.) and Miguel Perez (No. Calif.)

UPDATED STATS

Rosario Joel 1321 16-1 192 15% 7-1 45% .388

Perez Miguel 1665 14-1 280 17% 6-1 44% .372

These two jocks at present are the two best value jocks in the country according to my Turfday.com database taking into consideration number of mounts (more than 1,000), win percentage AND....significantly, odds their mounts win and are in the money with.

bettheoverlay 02-12-2008 05:07 PM

Another side to jockey stats are which jockeys are poor bets at good odds. Highly regarded jockeys are often poor bets in this area. At the current AQU inner dirt Ramon Dominguez is winning at a 22% clip. Between odds of 1/1 and 5/2 he is winning 37% with a 1.09 ROI.

At odds of 3/1 or better he is a somewhat startling 8/148 - 5%W and .37 ROI. And the falloff begins right at 3/1.
