NYRA cancelling
Would they have cancelled yesterday and today if synthetic available?
Is this a way of conditioning their customer base for winter racing on the stuff?
|
Why bother?
They had a winter track for years and got rid of it.
Why did they cancel? Track, cold, snow?

Not that you are interested, but the reason for the cancellation had ZERO to do with the racetrack. Here's Dave Grening's article about the cancellation. I suggest reading the quote in the third paragraph...

A synthetic track at Belmont would be a game changer, it will change the game to nothing gamblers will be leaving in droves, look at Gulfstream it used to be the Championship meet, now is the Champion💩💩💩 meet

You think there's going to be yet another 'drove'? One would think the 3 horse dirt fields and off-the-turfers have pretty much driven everyone out. But, AW is the problem.:lol:

Jockeys becoming a bunch of snowflakes. Nobody would have considered canceling on a day like this in the 90s.

Seems temps/wind chills have been this low before and racing continued. Certainly wasn't cold enough to call off over 30 timed workers and who knows how many just galloping.
If they want to cancel so be it. Hard to believe some of us would yearn for yesteryear and the old inner track.

Today would have been balmy day at Bowie in the winter.

You're looking at it the wrong way. NYRA shutting down dirt racing in the winter will surely mean a migration of NY based stables south for a shot at one of the three dirt races Gulfstream might card on a given day! Heck, horse racing fans may even see a full field of 12 contesting a dirt race in South Florida again.
Of course NYRA, in turn, can lure all those synthetic specialists to the frosty surfaces, and abundant purses in Elmont! Who wouldn't welcome Saffie Joseph bringing half his stock up north? Someone will need to take Linda Rice's place!

They wouldn't cancel under the conditions they have at Aqueduct today.

Not true Craig. Oaklawn cancels for less cold because of the track.

You didn't read the article and you just want to spout off. This has ZERO to do with the track, Main, Inner, Turf, synthetic, snow, ice, whatever you name.

It's amazing that anyone can be this consistently wrong. Gulfstream isn't running many dirt races because they don't fill. We had two ship up for a maiden race because they were the only two even entered for a maiden dirt race down there.
I am not a fan of synthetic racing but, based on what we are seeing at Gulfstream and Turfway, our field size will likely go up in the Winter if we are running on synth.
